What is the fining level of the stone
Would you rate these as very tactical, somewhat tactical, or neutral tactical?
Again with the "Tactical". (eye role here)

Well--if your not into Tactical you can just remove the the life-saving-emergency paracord attachment, in which case the device cleverly disguises itself as a civilian sharpening stone--recommended if captured behind enemy lines.

Please excuse my ignorance.
Why spend more money on this over the Fallkniven DC-4?
PaLee
Because it's tacticool.
Can we please stop using Fedex for shipping, their tracking sux and is never right. almost always changes the arrival date to a day later when it gets time to deliver. they even left a large package in my driveway next to the road without letting me know, i was lucky it wasn't stolen as i cant see it from my house. Please can we check and see if another carrier can be used.

One of my packages just updated from a delivery date of today, to a delivery date 3 days from now, because of this piece of shit delivery method
That said, no one who can make that kind of change is ever going to see this comment, much less respond to it 😩

Yeah FedEx is terrible. I've ordered two knives into Canada which took 10 days to arrive. Another item I got shipped to a shipping/receiving business in Blaine WA which took 12 days. What was annoying was that it just sat in Burlington WA ( 45 min away ) for 4 business days. The last day the tracking said it was on truck for delivery which didn't happen, but it got delivered the next day which was a Saturday..
These things might actually be worth the money if they didn't have a pointless lanyard stopping you from using part of the stone. Just get a DC4 .
Stone in the picture is still broken from last drop, you think they would have fixed that by now.

Says a lot about QC, when they use crap for ad pics.
Why are two edges beveled?
All jokes aside this stone seems extremely useful for woodcarving, Getting into a gouge to sharpen it is a pain in the ass. wondering how fine the edge on this is and if it’d Be useable for that purpose
GabenJewel
That's a good thought, but a ceramic slip stone would probably be cheaper for that single purpose... And no need for oil
I think everything that needs to be said about the "tactical" title has been said lol
Now can we address the fact that it's asinine to put a lanyard through a stone, essentially guaranteeing you'll never use that end of the stone and will wear unevenly over time?
Or the fact that having a stone that also requires you to carry oil with you is, at the very least, awkward. EDC in your pocket, really?
I don't know, I don't use oil stones, but is that not eventually going to soak through the leather and into your pants
Kavik
I have a translucent arkansas pocket stone that I occasionally carry. Water works ok for it when I don't have oil, though its obviously not ideal. As far as the oil soaking through the leather, the leather definitely absorbs it(it's definitely darker than when I received it), but I haven't had any trouble with it transferring to clothing. Perhaps its just a matter of time.
You're absolutely right about the lanyard hole.
just a little too short
Why is everything these days have to be fucking tactical. So sick of it. Just ridiculous and overused to hawk useless stuff to morons. BECAUSE IT'S TACTICAL THAT'S WHY!!! Well sign me UP! I wonder if it's the paracord that makes it tactical. So glad to see a lot of other people on this discussion so disgusted with why everything on Massdrop has to be TACTICAL. Knock it off Massdrop, it's irritating and insults the intelligence of anyone over 10.
Now on the the product. I only use Arkansas stones on all of my knives. I have three 10" stones and since Arkansas stones are natural and not man made there isn't a grit per se for them. It's more of a rough, medium and hard/smooth designation. If you are trying to sharpen a dull knife it is going to take FOREVER on a hard/smooth Black Arkansas stone. Theses stones are the last step after you have replaced your dull edge with the other two stones. If you know what you are doing you can get surgical sharp knives with a Black Arkansas but it shouldn't be your starting point. If you already have a decent edge then yeah I suppose it it's an alright deal. Being originally from Hot Springs, Arkansas myself where quarries are close to, I just went to the source and and got my three 10" stones for around $150 if I remember right. Hall's and Dan's are the two biggest that produce their stones in house. Hall's are a little more affordable especially if they are having a sale and for my money are working fine.

I have an extension in Chrome that turns ever instance of "millennials" to read as "snake people." So there's that.
I reaaaallllly wish you would unlock your posts in your profile so I could read more from you when I'm bored at work lol
I would like be to see some stropping/polishing compound drop.
I can't wait to add this to my tactical collection. It will look great next to my tactical toothpick, tactical nail clippers, tactical pizza slicer and tactical meat cleaver (BTW - these are all actual 'tactical' products, and no I do not own or plan to own any of them)

OMG I love you!!!! If I can't get more tactics in my life because I use tactics and need tactical gear I am going to lose it! I'm on the verge of losing my shit ON A DAILY BASIS because everything is TACTICAL these days. Because everyday life in 2017 DEMANDS the use of TACTICS, because I'm TACTICAL MOFOS!! I'm checking everyday for a tactical computer mouse because of the amount of time I spend at my computer daily I NEED IT!! THE MOST OVERUSED WORD CURRENTLY IN USE TODAY!
lol,
Do a drop on there bench stones.
I like how the medium size one is already broken
Why is this tactical?

Every elite soldier needs a tactical sharpener to quickly sharpen their knives in the heat of combat with lead flying other their heads.
C'mon, everyone knows this.
Sugar_Free
I feel so ashamed now.
Can someone point me to a video (Youtube or elsewhere) which shows how to use these stones?
What is the grit of this stone?
TravisWub
It's a natural (Arkansas) stone, not a synthetic (aluminum-oxide or similar) stone, so there is no "grit", per-se. You can find more here: http://www.danswhetstone.com/stone_grades_101.htm
tl;dr Black Arkansas stones are equivalent to 1200+ grit. Hard Arkansas stones are 800-1000 grit.
Arkansas stones cut very slowly compared to (even equivalent grit) synthetic stones, black stones tend to cut the slowest. (Haven't tried Transparent...) I'm assuming it's a Black Arkansas... description says "hard black", but "hard" and "black" are different grades of stone. It doesn't *look* like Hard stone in the pictures.
I've used a black stone to get a straight razor sharp enough to comfortably shave with. I generally use them when touching up pocket or kitchen knives. It'll take you a solid hour of work if the knife needs anything more than a touch-up, though.

Thanks that link was really helpful

We've just heard back from the vendor about the latest status of the group's order and it appears that it's taken them longer to receive and ship the necessary units than originally planned. They assure us that these units are arriving soon and should be en route to our warehouse in New Jersey shortly. As always, we will monitor the situation closely and update the group right away once this shipment is on its way to us.
We understand that the additional wait time is undesirable. If you would prefer to cancel your order, please contact Community Support using the “Contact Support” button in your transactions page (massdrop.com/transactions).

Tyler
Hey everyone -- Just wanted to follow up on this because Tyler has done a great job on staying on top of the logistics, and the vendor has done a great job of keeping up updated. I spoke with them today and the specific issue is that the leather pouches were delayed. RH Preyda cuts the stone, but they don't tan the leather, so it's somewhat beyond their control.
When working with a new vendor, we try to make conservative estimates precisely because of unknown variables like this. It falls on me for not giving a bit of extra buffer in this case, but everyone on both sides is doing the best we can to get these orders shipped ASAP. Here is the latest news that I have: [UPDATED 4/11]
4/14: ETA for orders to ship from RH Preyda to Massdrop 4/28: ETA for orders to arrive at Massdrop warehouse 4/22: ETA for orders to ship from Massdrop to members
This is about ten days behind schedule and we apologize for the delay. We understand if anyone wants to cancel, and appreciate your understanding as we get everything smoothed out on this first drop for RH Preyda. Thanks!
JonasHeineman
Thanks for jumping in @JonasHeineman! We will be sure to update the group again as soon as we receive tracking information from the vendor confirming that everything is en route to our warehouse.
Thanks once again for your patience and understanding and expect an update from us by the end of the day Pacific Time on 4/15 or sooner if something comes up.
We are still in contact with the vendor and just awaiting updated shipment estimates from them. We have a call scheduled for the middle of this week and should get a bit more visibility in regards to when we can expect these in our warehouse. We will update the group as soon as these are on the way.
Thanks for your patience and expect an update from us on 4/7 or sooner if something comes up.
