Product Description
Originally developed by the military for flight crews, the Rothco N-3B Snorkel Parka is for extremely cold temperatures, whether airborne or safe on land. Because of its length and water-repellent nylon design, it covers everything up and prevents outside moisture from snow or rain creeping in. The drawstring hood can be cinched shut for added protection against the elements, while the sleeve pockets give you space for other kinds of gear Read More
I have a Spiewak N-3B and it's easily the warmest jacket I've ever owned, but I don't think it's fair to compare a $600+ jacket to a $55 version of it.
They say "snorkel parka" but I'm not seeing anything on the hood that would give you the snorkel effect.
whomad1215YEs I had the Spiewak Parka also, it had a real fur trim. The Snorkel effect is the ability to turn out the fur trim, forward on the hood. This give protection from side winds and shelters the face. No all jackets of this type do this with the hood. They just sew the fur down on the hood without the extra flap.
I have to say for the first time I am disappointed with a Massdrop purchase. The only way I could be more disappointed in this jacket is if it was actually falling apart. As it is, this jacket does not seem like the typical quality that Rothco is known for putting out. It feels more like a windbreaker, not a parka. Perhaps my perspective is skewed because I had an old Rothco parka that was issued to my dad when he was in the Army. Cold could not penetrate that thing, and it weighed a ton. This jacket is not much more than the windbreaker I mentioned a moment ago. And worst of all, it looks cheap.
Take it for what it's worth. If you're cool with getting a lightweight "parka" (which is sized a big big BTW), then you will be happy. If you're an old military guy like me, and were expecting the military grade parka, then you'll not be happy.

Is there a more specific size chart?? One that shows how and where exactly the measurements were taken ??

I'm seeing no mention of insulation or insulation type. Anyone have any ideas? I've looked at numerous other sites to try to find out, but no joy. I see the LINING mentioned, but not INSULATION and they're not necessarily the same thing.
aremihcYa, I saw that, but again they mention "lining", not "insulation". I have suit and sport coats that have polyester lining, but no insulation. Thanks though.
