Uhhh I think the description for this item is just plain wrong. After receiving the device, there is no switch for selecting pickup pattern that I can see. I do not see any option of the kind in the user software, either... Anybody have a different experience?
I've also looked at the user manual and it only states that this is an omnidirectional mic: http://www.samsontech.com/site_media/support/manuals/GoMicDirect_OM_5L_V4.1.pdf
I'm a little peeved as the different pickup pattern selection was why I chose this mic over some others I was looking at. Buyer beware, I guess. Kinda sucks that now I don't trust Massdrop product descriptions for anything and will have to research each individual item if I'm interested.

Thanks again for joining this drop! With your help we were able to make it successful for the community. We've just submitted the group's order with the vendor for the Samson Go Mic Direct and they are working hard to prepare it for shipment.
As soon as the group's order is ready at the vendor's location, they will send the bulk shipment to our warehouse in New Jersey where we'll break it up into individual orders and ship them directly to you! The current estimated ship date from our warehouse is 8/28.

I'm looking for a relatively low-cost mic to use so my son can VOIP with his grandparents. Built-in mics don't quite cut it, but I don't want to drop hundreds on a studio mic. This seems like it might fit the bill. Is this a relatively easy-to-use, plug-and-play type device, or do I really need to be an audio enthusiast?

Im really tempted to get this, but is it worth the price of it and how goods the quailty. Since that I already have a high quality Sennhieser Boom mic on my G4me Zero's I don't know what to do. I've been looking for a good mic for youtubing.

MaverickMidoriIf you already have a good headset mic I don't think this will be enough of a 'step up' in quality. Spend a few bucks more and buy a bigger mic.
