This would be an effective cell phone user's noise deterrent if used in conjunction with a directional microphone, beaming the offender's voice back at them with a brief delay. Makes it very difficult to concentrate/speak.

I've seen similar arrays used for acoustic levitation. Perhaps this would be neat to play with. I wouldn't use this as a listening source.

Saeglapore is correct. Super Directional Speakers can only be heard when they are facing you. If you move even a little off axis, you can't hear them any longer. The sound is kind of like wearing headphones. Not a lot of bass will be coming from something like this, so it's not really for super high sound quality, but would be useful for something like an art exhibit where you don't want to disturb others and only address the sound to people directly in front of the piece. I want one to play with but $200 is a little pricey.

jdestefBasically it's just a speaker and you can only hear what's coming from it if it is facing your direction other than that you can't hear anything or very little
