Good sound but needs an equalizer to cut the bright highs and strengthen the base. Better than a run of the mill set by far.
Do the treble have energy or no? That will determine if it's trying to be an H3 or a Z5.. I prefer the latter having both. For the price if these come close, could be a good gym or beater set.
Looks like a Sony XBA-Z5 knock off...they didn't even try to hide it by keeping the XBA in the name...come on man.
Just buy two, one of them stop working, while trying to unplug the cable this happen, would not buy again. They are very fragile, impossible to unplug and not very good BASS. thanks Massdrop

How much burn-in do these guys need?
While these seem to have great potential, I'm not really impressed with these compared to my AKG pack ins from my Galaxy S8. Bass is great, loads of detail but vocals and sound in general seem a bit flat sounding and distant(?) in comparison. I've tried the various tips to make sure I got a good seal but it made no difference in the sound. I have also used different sources to test, Galaxy S8, Sound Blaster X G5, G6, AudioEngine D3 and a Monoprice Hybrid Tube Dac/Amp.
-update I gave these a good 60+ hour burn in with pink and white noise. They have really opened up, I am very pleased with how these sound. No regrets.

I did 72+ hours with the 1 More app and changed to foam tips from my Pinnacle PX, it is sounding really good, yes not as good as my Pinnacle PX, but that needs a lot of juice and XBA doesn't. So comparing to that I'd say for the price it is really good!
If anyone is interested, I'm selling mine, don't like them. $20 shipped CONUS
Does any know how these compare to the genuin Sony XBA-H3? I have a pair of those and like them a lot.
It would be pointless for me to get these unless the sound quality is pretty decent. Then it would make a good beater pair of IEMs for me.
These days, I hate the idea of getting IEMs that are good for the price, and then realizing I could have bought a really quality pair of IEMs with all the money I spent chasing a bunch high-value IEMs that sound really good for the price, but aren’t top tier.
K.T.N
Sounds like you already know you're going to buy some high end IEMs. Why not save and start narrowing your list?
K.T.N
Eh I mean for the Price they are decent.. There are better in the range.. BTW these are 0% metal on the casing, that is just coated plastic. They do sound decent though dont get me wrong, but they are not Sony quality BA's
Does anybody knows how are these compared to the LZ A4?
why would anyone waste money on Chinese knock offs. Can guarantee that it sounds awful and last for a few days max. Just look at the lousy quality and massdrop has the cheeks to even sell such garbage.
Hmmmmm
Hmmm... Let me guess. One, not all chinese IEMs are knock-offs, although these do look a lot like Sony's XBA-A3 and XBA-H3. Two, because the sound quality you get for the price is astounding, just look at the T2s. The Senfer don't fall too far behind, but they aren't as clean sounding. Three, not all are of terrible quality. The build quality on these is actually quite nice, unlike what's shown in the pictures (although the cable sucks, luckily it's replaceable). What sometimes suffers is the quality control of the more expensive brands. It's easier to get a dud that went past the checks. It's a risk that some are willing to take. But some companies, like KZ, are actually ok in that regard too. Also, I haven't seen may T2s have problems. These Senfers are quite problematic, but that doesn't throw shade on the category as a whole. There's a whole thread on Head-Fi dedicated to the so called chi-fi IEMs and there's a lot of them that are actually worth the trouble.

>KZ >Ok Chose one.
I have using my XBA for 48hrs now with the supplied accessories listening from music source Spotify via my Samsung Galaxy N8 and xDSD dac/amp and have concluded the following:
1: The supplied mmcx cable IMO is to rubbery. Very difficult to recoil and store away after use into the supplied case. If you are to wear them drop down from ears, it should have a chin slider so that the iem is more secure when wearing.
I suggest changing this poor quality cable.
2: The supplied ear tips leaks alot of sound. I suggest changing them for memory foam tips like comply to have that perfect sound seal.
With the modification listed above I can say these sound very, very good, I can hear detailed sound separation from instruments. In fact it is on the same par as the T2 if not better with little bit more bass and mids.
I do like these alot but with the mods inplace.
These look very uncomfurtble to me... they seem to long
Amitse
Looked like that to me too at first. Not the case. They are a bit on the long side, but not too much so. Not uncomfortable at all.
Amitse
They stick outwards like the Sony H1, H3, Z5 units. They're actually quite comfortable IF they wear just like the Sony. They disappear on your ears.
This is very obvious a knock-off design stealing from Sony. As Massdrop claim themselves as an American base company, I wonder why this kind of sales would be allowed (or even being legal) on this site?
Just received my pair today. We'd ordered 2 of them together with my father. His work with no issues. Mine, not so much. The sound is great for what it is, slightly V shaped but with good bass, the treble extends far, the mids are present and the soundstage is larger than adequate. But for some reason my right bud has a sort of buzzing sound when it plays. It's not constant, like static or something, but rather it follows the music, especially the low mid frequencies. It's like a tinny, distant echo of the sound played and it's mostly noticeable at quieter parts of songs. Sounds like something is loose in there and vibrates or maybe like a driver is loose... I honestly have no idea. I will let them play a bit, see if things improve, but I don't see how they would. It also happens at all cable angles and with another, bluetooth cable I tried. I also tried swapping tips, no joy.
It's sad, because I quite like these. I'd be ok with the cable being junk that breaks, I'm gonna replace it anyway, I don't like it. But if the bud already has problems... Damn. I don't even know if it's worth replacing or if it's even possible.
tolis626
Sucks on the bad pair, but it sounds like these are tuned more like the Sony H3 than the Z5. Z5 is more downward tilt with excellent clarity for a warm set while the H3 is a V shape.

Well, I haven't heard any of these Sonys, so I can't comment. But shape-wise, they're the closest to the XBA-H3, indeed. I wasn't expecting much to be honest, but other than my issue with the buzzing, they sound quite good! The build quality isn't anything to write home about, they aren't made of metal like the photos would have you believe, but they are comfy and sound ok and I won't cry if I break them or lose them. With that said, I've already joined the drop for the Tin Audio T2, so I'm gonna be comparing them to those when they arrive. The T2 are perhaps the most universally praised cheap IEM, so the comparison is gonna be interesting. Hope their quality control doesn't fail me too!
Good news is that mine work with no issues. Bad news is I am just not a fan of the sound. I tried all types of tips and just can't get enough bass. I let them burn in all labor day weekend 40+ hours. It helped with the harshness, but I have so many other IEM's that sound better to my ear. Open to selling these if anyone is interested.

How much?
carliber
Letting my father try them out. If he passes on them I will get back with you. $25 is probably what I would ask. Thanks.
Holy heck I've had these for less than a week and the cable has already broke... its on the microphone side. Broke as in the cable has completely come out of the MMCX connector. Luckily the cable is replaceable but this product shouldn't break so quickly with standard usage. For comparison the Westone UM1 may not be my cup of tea for sound but they've taken a beating and shown no signs of damage.
Do these need serious burn-in? Just got my pair and they are unlistenable. Everything sounds like it's coming through a thin apartment/condo wall. No soundstage. No bass.
EDIT - Apologies, must have a problem with my original signal source, as attaching to my mobile phone they sound much, much better.
EDIT - I must not have had them plugged in all the way to my laptop (original source) because now they sound great. My current favorite buds are some Beyerdynamic DTX 102 iE and these Senfers seem better all around. Deeper (but still not flabby) bass and the highs seem to have more detail.
Yet Another Edit - These might be the least "tangly" cords of any earbuds that I own. Greatly appreciated detail.

Probably a poor connection in the first place. Maybe the wire didn't go all the way in or something. What was your first device? The one that gave you problems?
Other than that, how do you like these?
Does anyone have a freaking solution to these things shocking you? I've no idea why, but it's like little needles pricking the outside of my ear while I'm trying to wear them. It's honestly keeping me from being able to enjoy them at all

Actually, they've stopped all together. I haven't been able to write determine why, unless the last time was plugging them into an amp (even with the volume nob way down on low gain) so it's possible they simply where getting too much, although they where doing it before that too. Otherwise, stock cable, or the cable that comes with the T2, they work just fine now.

Thanks for sharing!
Well, what I meant by poor connection is that maybe it was just that one time and unplugging and replugging the MMCX connectors fixed it. We'll never know, I guess, unless it happens again. Which, of course, I hope doesn't happen. :)
Just got mine. Pretty poor tolerance tbh. Mine came with a poor right bud connection that cuts out at certain cable angles.
But that said, the pairs have a surprisingly large sound stage. Treble is definitely a bit piercing, but maybe they will get better after burning in
Just received mine. They're ok. I'll write up a full review in about a week. But my initial impressions are that they are completely outclassed in overall sound quality by the TRN V80 and the Tin Audio T2. I do find them to be quite piercing at times, so I'm going to let them burn in some more and then do a three way shootout.
My pair arrived today. No connection issues thus far. No channel imbalance, no buzzing sound. Not an audiophile-type of impression, but I can tell that the sound coming out of these are very slightly V-shaped, yet not too bass heavy. I'd say treble is sparkly at times but not piercingly so. Decent responses across the frequency range. Gotta play some more tunes to be conclusive, but I like these IEMs quite a bit so far.
jaetm83
Similar experience. V-shaped, highs aren't piercing for me at all, cable works fine at any angle. Seems like the quality control is a little lacking and it comes down to luck a bit. My only complaint is that the bass is a little lighter than I like, but I could get foams and fix it easily.
777Sir
100% put foams on, trble toned and bass a bit better. I have the comply smartcore om them (the only iems i have put them on that they fit and dont slide past the stopper on).
I got mine today... wished I cancelled. Left side has no audio. (Unless I press the MCX cable) Right side had a weird buzz sound that I finally tracked down to me touching anything metal while plug is in my ear. (bad grounding?) Anyone else has same issues?

My left ear is finnicky if the connection spins (not an issue once their in, even when moving so far). I need to test another cable to see if its the unit or wire for a conclusion. I like what i hear, definitely v shaped, good but not basshead level bass.
Mintos
My right cable connector is bad. The sound stops with small movement. If I connect the left side cable to the right earpiece, it's fine. So the problem seems to be with the cable.
Was only a 3-4 business day delay.. I wonder how many people are smacking their forehead because they cancelled too quickly.
Yippee I just got "It's on it's way" message.
However my tracking says We wish to inform you that a number of packages may experience delayed or missing tracking information. Continue to check this tracking page for the latest update. Please accept our sincere apology for any inconvenience this may cause.
Let's hope it's comes very soon, until then I will continue to use my KZ's.

I got actual tracking information.. I do see you did say 'some' though. Just an FYI that I got tracking so you may be effected by that..

Update: Just checked my tracking progress and i can confirm that my Senfer XBA is en route. So hopefully it should be with me in the next 10 days or so from previous delivery experience.. :-)
Shipped today, awesome! I thought Sony took our knockoff IEMs ;)
777Sir
Unforturnately, they are shipping FedEx again, ugh! Well, back to the T2 while I'm at work, or out and about.
So, when will we find out if the delay will be longer than 30 days? After next 30 days? ;)
Grzegorz79
Looks like it. As Nplateau77 said in the post below, these IEMs don't seem to exist anywhere else. My guess is that there will be silence regarding this drop in case they can secure enough of these to fill current orders, but more probably they will just announce at some point that the drop has been canceled and people have been refunded. I hope it's the former, because I wanna try these and because I already ordered an MMCX Bluetooth adapter to make them wireless. Oh well...
So when can you expect the order? Status still Order placed with the vendor

I have a sneaking suspicion that this drop might run into problems... I just checked these out on Ali and it seems that they are not available anymore with any of the major vendors. I hope Massdrop secured enough units ahead of time.
Nplateau77
Well, apperently, oh what was it..... " Due to an unexpected delay, these orders may ship later than the original estimated ship date. Our apologies for any inconvenience. If we find that the drop is going to be delayed by more than 30 days, we will let you know. " Um.... Yeah..... At least "If you would prefer to cancel your order, please contact Community Support using the “Contact Support” button on your transactions page and our Community Support Team will be able to help cancel your order up until it is ready for shipment. " right? That is, if they would ever actually respond when you use that method of contact.
So is the drop active or inactive? My transactions says it is, but the product page says it isn't, and my PayPal hasn't been charged yet.
Is the appearance an aesthetic choice? The manufacturing quality looks god awful. Anyone have some experience with these?
What would be some good replacement tips for these? What size am I looking for as well?
How does this compare to TRG series IEMs?
