Just received mine. Red dot = right , black dot = left?
EDIT: Confirmed itis that way with a well-known stereo track.
anyone else's original cable peeling at the rubber part that connects to the drivers? i find it pretty annoying that sennhesier didn't have the whole thing sleeved
Last time I ordered this, requesting dual 3-pin XLR Neutrik connectors for my HD800S, Massdrop sent me a cable terminated with TRS XLR. The options upon checkout need to be MORE specific about WHAT TYPE of balanced connectors we are getting. When you enter a drop, make payment, and wait forever for the item, and the item you receive is NOT as advertised, it's an un-tasty bit of anguish and an unfortunate return.
However, I have not given up on Massdrop! I am encouraged about the Cardas Clear Light cables I just ordered. The checkout specifically mentioned NEUTRIK 4-pin XLR connectors, so I hope they will send NEUTRIK terminations and NOT TRS XLR. Thank you, Massdrop, for being specific this time at checkout. This is an EXCELLENT deal...approximately HALF of retail or better. Go check other sites and compare!
I'd like this, but for the HD58X, and with a 3.5 mm balanced connector as the termination...
This drop ended right before I knew I was getting hd800's :'c

It's back!
I’m getting real tired of everyone on Massdrop calling every cable drop snakeoil. Yes, cables don’t improve the sound unless you are using ultra-cheap China special cables. But $110 for this cable, or something like $65 for those Venture Electronics cables is very reasonable. There’s nothing wrong with buying a $65 cable for a pair of $200 HD6XXs if you want a nicer cable. And if you want a balanced cable then there aren’t many options below $60, so that’s very reasonable. In this case this is cheaper than buying replacement stock cables for the HD800S, how is it snakeoil? When we get into the $300+ silver cables that claim to improve sound quality, that is snake oil. But hey, if you have $500 to spend and already have tons of headphones and want to buy a $500 braided boutique cable because it’s super nice, all power to you. Just know that it is not improving sound quality.
Hey isnt this suppose to have been shipped by the 7th? It's the 11th now, when is it coming?
For $110 you can buy a real nice pair of headphones...

6OFN cable isn't great

Sennheiser charges $45 just for the connector.
I don't understand this drop, the stock HD800S cables are better then this and they come with the headphones.

I joint this drop for the 3-pin XLR cable. My reason is to run with two balanced XLR (left and right) output sockets from my amp to a dual three-pin XLR cable, which the HD800s doesn't come along with. However I do agree that both the Sennheiser stock 1/4-inch and 4-pin XLR cables that came along with the HD800s are at the utmost of quality. I wouldn't bother going out of my way to change them unless they're damaged, if that was the case the ZY Cable drop would be a alternative replacement for a cheaper option.

Despite the premium appearance and price of the wire, the stock cables are poorly engineered and prone to having the insulation tearing . Some of us just want a (relatively) cheap and functional replacement. The stock cables also share a common ground, so you need a different one if you want to use an amplifier like Sennheiser's HDVD 800. Yeah, if you are doing that, you can probably afford to spend Sennheiser's price, but it is hard to justify spending any more than you need to spend for what is essentially just a wire and they charge so much.
Ssssss.... (sound of Snake Oil oozing out of the bottle).

I didn't say anything about the sound. All I said was it is cheaper than buying a replacement stock cable from Sennheiser. Never said it sounded better.

None the less, the offer stands!
Will this fit both the HD800 and HD800S?
JoeGiz
the answer to that is YES.
I have a HD 800 S is this cable upgrading the sound and does it support true balanced with the XLR adpater?
Semaphore_Newgrounds
upgrade sound? no the hd800s already comes with a balanced xlr cable
For people who are new to evaluating cables, headphones are probably the easiest way to hear just how significant an improvement a good cable can provide. This looks like a high quality cable with good design.
I wish they had an options with shorter cable length, like 1.5 m (5ft)...
Just when I thought I could finally go for this one since there are now options for 1/4 inch, it's for the HD800 and not the HD650.
Oh well, I could wait.
ZiggyStar
There are plenty of cable options for HD600/650/6XX. I got my cable from Impact Audio Cables on Etsy, great quality, and you can get lengths from 4-8 ft for 70 bucks. I got mine terminated with a balanced 4-pin XLR, but there are 1/4 inch and 3.5mm options for the same price.
No plan to do a dropnfor HD650 cable?
Does this fit with the Audio Technica IM03?
cktanks
these are for very large headphones, not earbuds.
My original cable is busted, you recon i should buy this balaced cable or just go for the oem unbalanced?
sripakdee
Only you would know if you may plan to "upgrade" to a balanced amp but if you get the adaptor also, then the balanced cable will still work with an unbalanced or typical amp. Enjoy!
Any way you could ship to Brazil please? I'm really interested but there's no option
Will these work with the Massdrop HD6xx?
Boyce89976
No. HD 800 has different plugs than the HD 6XX / HD 600 / HD 650.
Surely when they say 6.5mm, they mean 6.3mm? And what in the fucking hells is "Neutrik-plated nickel silver"?

Remedial reading, huh? I'm sure you'll have no trouble pointing out where I made such a stupid mistake that I deserve this insult? It can't possibly be because I correctly called YOU out for being a retard aready, can it? Hmmmm. I guess you subscribe to the Donald Trump School of Thinking Goodly (The Best), where being caught out means doubling down on whatever stupid shit you got caught for in the first place, and never, ever admitting you were wrong. Hey, maybe if you keep on it, it will become true!
Headohones!? What on earth are headohones!?!?
There's a lot of debate about cables out there, and those with their opinions, well, have their opinions, and they probably won't change.
Personally, I've done a lot of cable testing over the years on all sorts of low to high-priced gear, and here's what I can say with a fair bit of experience - depending on a number of factors, including material, gauge etc., every cable has it's own signature "sound", if you will, even if minimally audible. I've also seen situations where some cables sounded crappy with one set of gear, but amazing with other sets.
Ultimately, audio preferences are subjective, and everyone has their own. If you spend some time trying different gear combinations over a long period of time, I'm sure everyone can find a combination that they consider their pinnacle. One thing that's usually a constant, though, is that almost every decent entry-level aftermarket cable is an improvement over stock.
The "snake oil" comes into play with those who try to convince you that the most expensive, esoteric cables are the be all end all. At a certain price / performance point, diminishing returns kick in rapidly, and the difference between, say, a $1,000 cable and a $50,000 cable will be marginal vs. the jump from stock to a $200-$300 upgrade.
IMHO, the goal is to find a combination that you find most pleasing that fits your budget, and in the audio game, there's gear for every single budget out there. Forget what others say and take the time to test different gear combinations; who knows your listening preferences better than you do, after all. With a bit of patience and tinkering, you'll be surprised about the improvements you can make, even at entry-level price points. As a general guideline, for anyone who might be thinking about upgrades, a good ratio is max 10% of the cost of your gear on cables. Anymore than that and you're wasting your money.

Well, maybe I'll have to try and get a 1.5m one :D
Evshrug
Norne Audio .
Haha, snake oil.
I've had this cable for a year and I recommend it. It's the cheapest option I could find but it's still of a very good quality, I've had no issues. But it won't improve sound quality one bit, cables don't work like that and anyone trying to convince you they do is selling snake oil.
But this is a good product at an attractive price.

As I mentioned: At this years Rocky Mountain Audio Fest in Denver, I noticed that all of the demo units that Sennheiser had out were connected to their amplifier (a $2,200 Sennheiser HDVD-800 https://en-us.sennheiser.com/headphone-audio-amplification-hdvd-800-acoustic) with a balanced cable. I had brought my own HD600 with the original cable, and plugged into the same amp, so the only difference was the balanced cable, and I heard a significant difference -- more tightly controlled bass, better clarity in the high end, and a wider soundstage.
SteelyD
$100 is a good price? Are you out of your mind? I made my own for half that much, including $45 for rhe hd800 connectors
Just bought this cable 2 days ago. Why you do dis massdrop!
I think there will more sales if you give the option to have the cable compatible with not only hd800s, but other headphones as well like the hd650 and hd600s. Hopefully there is a drop for balanced cables for other sennheiser headphones, especially because the hd 6xxs were released.

Its not like Massdrop would offer a discount anyway... they too have a 'product' to maintain the quality of /s
Rayndalf
But they clearly write it on the schitt website "ON 'DEALS' We get asked all the time about deals, sales and other incentives, such as Black Friday specials, EZ credit, trade-ins, monthly payments, purchasing with 2 cards, and a whole raft of other “can I get a better price” questions.
So, here’s the deal: We don’t do deals.
Why? Because when you run sales, specials, financing, or other deals, it has exactly three results:
1. It makes everyone wait for the sales, so suddenly your company is addicted to them. 2. It makes everyone who bought before the sales wonder if they got screwed. 3. It makes everything cost more.
Read #3 again. The simplest sales model is one where everything is a fixed cost, no sales, no promos, no special package deals, no loyalty programs, no EZ financing. And simple is inexpensive. Simple means we don’t have to pass the cost along to you. Anytime we do a sale, start a promo, offer a package deal, or start a loyalty program, we’re adding cost to our products.
That’s why we have one price list, no discounts, no sales, no promos–because it passes the savings along to everyone."
Are these the same XLR connectors that AKG 702s have.? Can these headphone cables also be used for the 702's? Or the 7xx? Anyone comment on significant differences in sound quality XLR vs normal stereo jacks?
dufferdan
Nope, it would not work. Balanced XLR vs single ended TRS is a hotly debated topic. XLR *might* make a difference in sound quality, and improve separation, or it may be snake oil. XLR certainly does allow more power to go though, just look at the specs of the Schiit Jotunheim.
Are these guys "Monster" reformed under a new name?
Rochambeaux
This is actually cheaper than all other balanced cable options for hd800
Rochambeaux
No, not the same company as Monster.
