The watch is advertised as a diver .. OK, it's got the water resistance of a diver. Does it have the desired durability? Some on this discussion have said "no". I happen to like the size and look of it (Does that make me warped? .. Probably.) .. And to add to the controversy, I ordered the gold one! .. Please, don't everyone throw tomatoes at me all at once! .. Anyway, I have always believed that if you like something that happens to cut against the grain, follow your own instincts because at the end of the day, you only have to answer to yourself. The worst that can happen is I'm out 72 bucks on a beater.
BigAlSvidIts a simple design its not awful at all and its a quartz watch it should be durable enough good luck with your purchase enjoy share some pics
I own 3 Shield quartz Chronographs models (Haig). I got them a few years ago for between $80-$120 through an online mass drop type of deal (but not Drop.com). Those pieces had a MSRP of $1200 a peice. I gave one of them to my son when he graduated high school. He broke it while on duty as a U.S. Marine by dropping it about 4 feet on its face onto concrete. The crystal got a chip in it and the hands came loose and spun around the dail. The good part of this is that I gave my son the one off my wrist when I came to visit him at Camp Lejeune, NC as a replacement then I contacted the company to get the one he dropped repaired. The customer service rep told me that it would cost about $90 to repair plus shipping.....OR they can send me a brand new replacement for $85. Hmmm...for a $1200 watch? I took the replacement for $85....Do I like the watches? There are functional and nice looking. They are advertised as being extremely tough and marketed to first responders and the military but I am skeptical of how they would actually fair the field. I don't even go camping anymore so they are fine for the money I paid.
cm.rookI honestly think that you and your son would be better served with a G-Shock or Seiko in the same price range (or say, $100 bracket). The MSRP can be put at anything Shield wants, does not mean those watches are really worth that on the retail market.
BobrazYeah, I bought these a few years back before I knew anything about watches...Time marches on.

Or for less than $72, you could choose any 1 watch from the picture below, from a retailer that actually respects you as a customer. To be fair, I think I paid $85 on sale for the Parnis gmt.
I bought the blue version of this watch. I regretted it as soon as I opened the box. It looks like a big toy watch with plastic indices on a black cardboard dial. I don't know what I was thinking. It looks almost as ridiculous on me as on this hairy lady on the picture below who is really "digging" it.
This is a replica of my other Dive watch. Check out Aquadive Bathyscaphe (Google). That piece is the real classic cushion design, oozing quality from strap to crystal. I love that piece of tank! Mine is DLC version, extremely scratch resistant 👍💪
That figures, no one likes it, but I kind of do. Except for two things😄. I hate superfluous - why does it have a ring with the minutes on it? Just the face and the timer bezel (which has minutes) would have been awesome. 2. It's a dive watch which are usually bought for their supposed toughness - this one has no protection for the crown! The crown is just sitting out there begging to get damaged. Very poor design, or lack of design. A pseudo tough watch designed to look rugged, but not actually be rugged.
