Support for Alternative Layouts
This is a summary of how alternative layouts have been supported by kits such as Colevrak and Homing. It is not a discussion of alt layout performance and development, but if that interests you I highly recommend starting with Pascal Getreuer’s A guide to alt keyboard layouts (why, how, which one?). It’s a concise and comprehensive overview with links to some great sites that go deeper. He also has a separate Links about keyboards page. The Keyboard layouts doc he recommends explains layout goals and metrics in detail, summarizing the alt layouts discussed here as well as more than one hundred others. Sculpted-profile The majority of custom keycap sets are sculpted-profile (Cherry, SA, MT3, KAT, etc. - more on profiles generally here) so let’s start there. No greens? Really??? I accidentally ordered a set of the Gateron Greens on the last drop before I realized they're non-SMD LED compatible. I figured it's not that big of a deal because I can just drill out the back, but is there any chance of you offering the Green Version of these? I can't seem to even find these online anywhere else just to buy them.
I finally found this CM Storm QuickFire TK Limited Edition keyboard with green switches, that several reviewers ragged about being too stiff, but when I received it from amazon I was completely won over. I was almost about to give up on mechanical switches, but now I absolutely love them with these green puppies. With those little rubber o-rings added too, I swear, typing has almost become like good sex.
On the last Gateron drop I jumped in on, just a few weeks back, they had all the colors in PCB or Plate mount, but I didn't notice they weren't SMD LED compatble, until after I ordered them. I honestly can't believe how hard it is to find green switches in general and especially SMD LED Plate Mount green switches, but I just got into mechanical keyboards recently.
That varmilo looks sweet, BUT I hate bluetooth. If it comes up for another drop, I might try it out though, thnx.
