can this play multiple inputs at the same time?
SleepyTheGeek
No.. One at a time
Looking again on power specs I guess its some kind of Chinese-manufacture-like typo, with higher impedance it will be less power and vice versa. Its highly probable because as ive red it can drive 300 ohm headphones just fine.
Got the last drop at $220 :(
NeoXNocturne
Still good deal. In Poland its 480$ right now :O This drop i think was quite unappreciated, with full A amplification, lamp buffered, preamp and high end dac in a price of just one of them.
Bellyofthebizd
And I missed it. Ah well :(
How would I connect this to my computer? All the lines out in the back are confusing, do I just plug in the Toslink and 24v in then plug my headphones into the 1/4mm in the front? I currently have a Magni 2 with a Male RCA cables going into the R and L connections which then terminates down to a 3.5mm male connector which I plug into the back of my soundcard on my computer. Would I need to use the same cable I have now for my Magnii 2 with the addition of using a toslink/usb? What would be better to use? Toslink or Usb? Thank you!
The drop ends in 2 days. Will this product have another drop in the future?
hi, has anyone in Europe bought it? It's 110/220V on specs, but i want to make sure it will work fine
Bellyofthebizd
Oh well, joined the drop with hope for 220 volts :P
Bellyofthebizd
I joined as well and live in a 220 country. Actually if you look at the picture of the AC adaptor it reads 110-220V, so it should be worldwide voltage just like a laptop adaptor.
Can someone help me here ? Is this or the MassDrop O2+SDAC better ? I plan to pair it with a HE4XX and (possibly) a Messe 99

That's not a bad idea. I want to have it to be sure that I don't wait 3 days to get that hiss out, and still not be able to get it out, then have to order a replacement tube then. But maybe I should just take my chances for now. Thanks
Lociinthesky
Most (if not all) stock tubes have some hiss, according to my readings and my experience (a friend of mine also bough a DV, and his had it too). My stock driver tube lost almost every hiss just by burn in, I read somewhere on the internet a easy way to do so:
  • with the amp cooled down, unplug everything and wait for a few minutes
  • remove power tube
  • plug power and nothing else (no RCA input, no headphones, just power)
  • turn on the amp
  • let the driver tube burn for some hours (some people leave their DV on for days like that, I turned it on every 8h or so and let it cool for the rest of the day because don't wanna risk starting a fire on a empty office).
  • turn off the amp
  • unplug power and wait for a few minutes
  • insert power tube
  • plug everything back
  • turn on
  • wait for a minute or so, and try to listen if there's any hiss (mine went ALMOST silent after a week of 6-8h daily burn in)
However, DV stock hiss it's not terrible, just barely noticeable on the HD6XX/HD650 and only with no background sound at all. And it's just a low frequency tone that doesn't bothers me nearly as much as those white-ish noise hisses that some cheap solid state amps have (or try to avoid with, again, cheap cutoff circuits that sometimes won't trigger and you can easily tell whether it's on or off... super annoying). As you can see, I'm pretty sensitive to background hiss as well, and I can tell you the DV hiss isn't too annoying for me. And it noticeable improved after burning in the driver tube, so no big deal.
Huge price drop this time...

Seems last stock of this item.
Obligatory request: will this drive my HD6xx well?

One_Eyed_Jackal
A lot of people seem to have this question.
The answer would be "depends on your definition of well". It will drive the 6xx to enjoyable levels (70-100 db) without a problem. It will not drive the 6xx (rated at 97 db SPL at 1mW) to the threshold of pain i.e 120db before clipping (their specs say 42mW at 300 Ohms while keeping the THD+N <= 0.1%) but why would you ever want to listen to music at that level? Around 10-20mW of power is sufficient for *most* human beings to enjoy their music on the 6xx.
This is good enough for you but probably not good enough for your cat.
laksh
Awesome. Fortunately, my cat is adverse to towards loud noises. Thanks for the info @laksh .
Wanna sell mine for $180.

Yeah I'm in the states. You can find me on Headfi with ID: ZYReady. Or my email address is yangzhiyao-yzy@hotmail.com. Thank you!
Wonder if I can replace that wimpy-looking tube with something a little more "manly"?

Can someone do a review after they get it and make sure and plop a NOS Mullard or something as good as it.
rslatara
How about YOU doing that for US, instead?!
I look forward to pair this with my HD600s Currently using Fiio Q1, so I'm hopping this will be a big upgrade :) Comments?
Would this be good for the Beyredynamic DT880 @ 600 ohm?
tropical-peach
It doesn't have a 600 ohm spec here, but at 300 ohms, it only produces 47mW, so I'd say no. Perhaps one of the Schiit or JDS Labs products would be suitable.
59 mW @32 Ohm? My xDuoo TA-10 is 2000 mw.

Ah! I still do not know the calculations but you are on to something!
rslatara
Oh--now it's turned into a pecker contest has it?
MD: you have got a very good review from a credible source and you are not giving it as much if not more marketing space(copy) as you do with some of the reviews you get from "Joe sh-- the Rag-man" individual user comment on some of your other products? https://www.headfonia.com/review-smsl-a-surprise/ Kudos to you for picking up what seems to be a fairly solid product. I like SMSL's products, considering the cost they hit. This looks promising.
coolerking
What is the actual power output surely that isn't the correct output listed?
rslatara
Any amp maker does better than this. I believe this must be an older SMSL product.
I have one, pretty nice little unit. Don't know what the stock tube is, but it sounds quite nice. Lots of I/O options. I especially like that there's a DAC out that bypasses the tube and a pre out that is buffered by the tube.
Unlike some other combo units, when you turn this off the DAC powers off. That was fine with Windows, but Volumio on my RPi didn't like that so much, and I'm not about to leave a tube on all the time.
I'll also note that while the power output noted in the specs seems awfully low, it can drive my HE400, 4XX and TH-X00 PH easily. I have not tried my T-X0 with it, but I don't foresee any issues there, nor do I have any high impedance cans to try with it.

Sorry, I didn't end up back in the office until today. Here are the measurements: ~5.5 inches deep ~3.5 inches tall ~2.75 inches wide

No worries at all, thanks for doing that - still plenty of time to get or build a LPS before MD gets these shipped =]
This looks mighty fine. Been looking for a product to run my HD600 and my Swan m200s. Anyone know how well this pairs with the HD600 or how well it sounds with better tubes?
Does this ship in the UK?
Can I use the genalex gold lion - 12au7 or Ecc82 - with this? If yes, is it pretty straight forward to do so? Thanks and cheers
jer0n
A 12au7 to 6922 adapter should be sufficient. There is also a jumper in SMSL T1 to switch between 12V and 6V, but I am not sure whether this jumper can make it use 12au7 directly.
Too low of output power even if it is class a. Walwart power is a no go for me too !
Mine doesn't work when I plug the headphones in. The tube didn't light up and no sound came out. How can I solve this problem?

That's cool. I try this dac&amp with my IEM on my friend's home and I love the sound. I also order one at 11.11. What headphone do you use on this T1? Do you try some headphone that is difficult? I still got a little bit worried about the power of this dac/amp.
RoyZ
I tried it both with my IEMs and headphones, and it performs well. There's a little noise when using sensitive IEMs, such as U10 from 64Audio. But it's quite less when using Denon C400. I don't have high resistance headphones and my hardest-to-push set is only 50 ohms. I paired T1 with Shanling M5 and it's enough for most headphones under 100 ohms, even for AKG's K701. Although the power listed in description looks not very high, I read some reviews from Chinese sites said it can push some flagship headphones such as HD800 to 70%-80%, and the sound is quite good for general listening.
Does this need to have a line out or headphone plugged in when it runs?

According to online guides, a 6n11 can be replaced with a 6922 (US) or E88CC (European) tube. Can anyone suggest a good replacement tube?
If I order soon, I might get it before the DAC :)

good tube? amperex pq white or gold label, 1969 or older.
