Product Description
The Snugpak Hammock Under Blanket keeps you warm and protected from the wind and cold that penetrate the bottom of your hammock as you lie suspended during the night. It fits snugly to the outside of most hammocks and uses high-loft fibers as insulation to trap your natural body heat, sheild you from draft, and increase overall comfort Read More

Hey, Massdrop, having a temp rating in the specs is pretty essential for hammock campers.

foulmouthedruffianThe manufacturer doesn't provide a temp rating for this product, so I'm unsure where you expect Massdrop to get this info. Most people I've seen say 40-30 F.

I've had one of these for 3+ months. I haven't found any way to properly eliminate air gapping at the head or foot end of this thing because it doesn't have a draft collar or even cinch cords to pull it closed.

Just curious. ......cant you just use your sleeping bag inside the hammock???? Why bother carrying this as well

flavespoWhat Thedudeabidesman said. This is also it's why a lot of ground-sleeping tent/tarp hikers are also turning to quilts instead of bags - why pack the extra weight when whatever portion of your sleeping bag that's directly under you is just going to get compressed to nearly no R value. Most of your underside R-value with either sleep system is going to come from your pad (for ground-sleepers and some hammock campers) or your underquilt (hammock campers). Many hikers of both kinds are finding that they're just as comfy with a snug-able top-quilt with an adjustable footbox (like this one: http://www.hammockgear.com/burrow-10/) as they are with a full bag, and ditching the extra weight.

flavespoDoesn't work, unfortunately. Your body weight compresses the bottom of the sleeping bag against the hammock. All you have then between your skin and the cold, cold air is whatever you're wearing, a 1/4 inch of compressed sleeping bag insulation, and the hammock fabric. Brrrrr...

I gotta say something about this. I got in on the last drop on this. The lead photo is, unfortunately, NOT the Snugpak. It is a DD Hammocks underquilt. I thought snugpak updated they're design & I was so stoked. But when it arrived it was the same as my older one. The closed end with shock cord running through the channel is a better design that keeps more warmth in. The Snugpak still has 4 loop tabs sewn on for hanging. Don't get me wrong...I love my snugpak. BUT I was disappointed when I did NOT get the pictured quilt. MAYBE....we could get a drop going for the DD hammock quilts.

Cool. I Think I'm going to pull the trigger on the econo top quilt next month. I do have a hammock gear full length 20 degree under quilt. It's too warm for these warmer nights. Looking forward to the cooler weather.

ROFLMAO... shipping for Croatia is $54.50 (and, as I can see, other parts of the World have it barely better). Admittedly, it's heavy under-blanket, but... Get serious MD, and stop wasting our time. Pretty please.

$48 dollars shipping to Australia? Is that a glitch or a bad joke.

I own a Snugpak underquilt, and like it quite a bit for what it is. It's kind of like the underquilt equivalent of the old-fashioned rectangular sleeping bag... It's heavy, and not super warm for its weight. However, it is inexpensive and sturdy. I sleep in a hammock in my bedroom at home, and this underquilt lives on my home hammock. I wouldn't take it backpacking -- it's too heavy and probably not warm enough if the temperature dips below 40˚ (I sleep cold). But for use at home or car camping in warmish weather, this is a great deal :)
For me, it saves daily wear and tear on my precious Hammock Gear Incubator :) My daughter has started sleeping in a hammock here at home too -- I might jump in on this deal and save it for Christmas... :)

ozzaHoly crap you're right. I was considering this....if the shipping is (to Europe in my case) more expensive than the product...it might be a bad deal.

51oz? This underquilt weighs more than three pounds? That can't be right.
EDIT: okay, yeah the manufacturer site says 51oz too. I guess that's why it's so cheap. Most of the ones in the $100-250 range will be 16-20ish oz. This one is probably okay if you're camping without any hiking but if you're backpacking, man, that's a lot of weight for an underquilt.
