I'm being honest. I didn't know Sony made $2300 headphones. Do you know the other cans you can get for that? I think most people would rather buy some HD800S' than these.
CokemanWould definitely buy some MrSpeakers or a good IEM over these.

CokemanI prefer these to either of the iterations of the HD800(S), it's not even close - they're very different.
Sony's always made good headphones, do you not know of the legendary R10? They retailed for like 4 grand when they came out in 1989 (you can calculate yourself what that'd be in today's currency after accounting for inflation etc) and go for around 10 large these days depending on the version and year of production.
They're incredible. The Z1R are different, they're also very polarising headphones due to their sound signature (which you can learn more about if you google reviews, there are TONS) so they're not for everyone but then again, neither are the HD800. I love the Z1R.

CokemanI have both. and I love both. They're really different, and require different setups to really shine. I have different setups to drive both the HD800S as well as the Z1R, and I cannot find anything to say that one is superior to the other. Just that they're different. I do find myself listening more to the Z1R these days though, and the HD800S makes a refreshing change once in a while.
