Buyer beware, these are not even worth USD70. There is virtually no noise cancelling; just a hiss. The sound is also deplorable; like an old transistor radio in your ears. These were obviously an epic fail on the part of Sony. My recommendation is to steer clear of the NC85D and save up for some real noise-cancellers (or any other headphone for that matter).
I will probably gift these to someone I don't like.

nantipaneithThank you for following up, I've been waiting for someone's take on these since my research told me to steer clear myself. Now obviously a fortunate decision. Sorry to hear about your experience though. Shame on Sony for this one. (And they were initially charging $500!!!! for these...wow). The gall.
