Sooo... why is a 1700 lumen FHD projector worth this much?

lodewijkGo to avsforum and read the reviews. This projector is one of the highest-rated in the sub-10K market.

Will the warranty be fully supported for this?
My understanding is that only purchases from authorized Sony dealers (all of whom charge $2500 and $2900 for these projectors) are covered under warranty, and the dealers you can find selling them for cheaper are "grey market" types where the warranty is invalid.
If these are fully supported, than this price is a major bargain.

TrepanatorI'm curious about this as well. it seems like a deal-breaker. If it isn't coming from an authorized dealer, then this isn't a particularly good price.

Hmm quick Google search and I found this for a little over 1500....good deal but there are better out there.....i am looking for a new projector though. Also, I guess I'm the lone wolf out there who still enjoys 3d....and while it looks good on my 58" panny..... I've always thought a 3d projector would be the way to go. I have to disagree that there are "no good 3d movies out there." Not all 3d content is created equal but there are several that look fantastic. Guess the fad hasn't quite died for me. :) I too would be worried about 1700 lumens....
twibmassaYes @twibmassa I seem to find the same results as @Maverick0984. If you have found this product from a legit source at a better price please let us know and share the link. I have search for some time now and can not find anyone close to our price.

Tex-ArozziI purchased this projector during Sony's promotional event they seem to have every spring (April/May time-frame). The projector was discounted $500 to $1999.99. As a consumer, I definitely wanted Sony to honor any warranty issues. If Sony honors warranty claims from this purchase (most online retailers with cheaper prices are not authorized retailers), this Drop is a steal.

I have 40ES. 1700 lumens is very bright on my 144" 1.1 gain screen, even with some light bleed from room. I watched NFL game with 60 watt room light on and though colors a little washed, perfectly watchable.
This price is a huge steal! Awesome projector, though on big side.

Only 1700 lumens? Not even ANSI rated? It would be nice to upgrade from my Optima TX1080, but I'm spoiled with 3600 ANSI lumens.

PilfercateIf you've calibrated it to be at all watchable you're not getting anywhere near 3600lm, closer to half of that.

I've been using the HW40ES for about a year now. Just chiming in if anybody is looking for 3D glasses, PS3 glasses work out of the box and are very inexpensive.
