Got this TV for about $1k for Black Friday, the 55" version. Definitely worth the money. Amazing TV overall. Android TV still has a ways to go but once you're used to it it's not bad at all. Picture is amazing!
A couple of questions, first Android on Sony TVs have always been atrocious. Is it as bad on this set in terms of speed? Second, how ‘s the off angle viewing? Is it washed out as soon as you’re not in the center axis?
TechFounderi have the 65 inch, honestly i think it depended on what model you got. The smart menu on this set is the fastest I have seen out of any of the competitors, faster than my vizio (the sony replaced this), faster than my samsung i got last year for my living room. The apps are also a lot less buggy than they are on the samsung (i think it is because samsung tries to keep all the apps on standby that you open up)
for any of the models 900 and above like 900e, 900f, those tv's always used their fastest processor which is ahead of all the competition right now as far as 4k playback and upscaling lower res content
I too was torn between the Sony 75" 900f and the Samsung Q8FN - I opted for the Sony for a few reasons.
1) The price - The Sony ended up being nearly $700 cheaper when I purchased it.
2) The feature set of the Sony - it supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision where QLED only supports HDR10+. Both HDR10+ and Dolby Vision are an enhancement on top HDR allowing dynamic meta data to be included - so kind of a wash.
3) The integrated apps are nice - there are no adds on the Sony unlike the Samsung adds that cannot be disabled.
Try out rtings for the side-by-side comparison... you'll notice that they're nearly identical: https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/sony-x900f-vs-samsung-q8fn/585/598
I've really enjoyed my Sony TV. The image quality is excellent. I'm considering purchasing the 55" Sony to unnecessarily replace my downstairs living room TV.
Andy-BHilariously, I am in the almost identical situation - bought an X900 to replace a super old LCD a month ago. I decided on X900 above the Q8 after going to rtings & doing a detailed compare. I'm now hoping to unnecessarily replace my upstairs TV :).
mightysonicI was in the same boat deciding between Samsung QxFN and X900F a month ago. I ultimately went with the Sony due to the better integrated app platform, motion and upscaling. I didn't think I'd use the integrated apps that much, but it drives my receiver so well that it's one button to launch Netflix. The Samsung apps and remote, in comparison, seemed cludgy. Of course it all depends on what you need, but I've been delighted with my 55" Sony and just signed up for a 75" here to replace an old DLP elsewhere in my home.
mightysonicit is pretty much up to you... just want to point out that the sony has their triluminous tech in it which is actually the same thing as Quantum Dot tech. pretty much comes down to price - if you can save quite a bit of money going with Q8 maybe go that route.... I went with Sony to replace my 65 inch vizio due to Samsung being roughly the same cost at performance to the 900f and decided against samsung as their very top end tv is the only set they have that does full-array backlighting... The Q8 is edge-lit which made it easier for me to drop.. That and I hate the samsung remotes... any time I need to do something that isn't volume or turn on its just annoying as it makes it a clunky interface when interacting with apps.
the funny thing is i got a budget samsung last year and it has full-array backlighting on it
