Bought this knife in the last drop and was disappointed. The handles very a lot.
Seriously, quit referencing 440c. It’s junk, and in no way similar to any quality steel.
It's the same price as at BladeHQ, only no shipping or tax at BladeHQ.
Those handle scales are amazing.

Unfortunately, it’s a crap-shoot as to whether you’ll get nice looking scales or not if you join. The attractiveness is not consistent as you will see from the comments below. 😕
I’ve read that this knife should be bought in person, to make sure the scales are as pretty as the pictures. It’s beauty seems to be very hit or miss.

Totally agree one of the few knives I won’t buy online.

You've heard correctly.
another lousy deal

Yep, you got that right.
Ugliest handle ever

Ever seen them in person?
I figured you'd be able to remove the pouch for a discount, but I don't see that option now?
$7 more than Amazon with 2-day Prime shipping. Unless you really want the pouch, I don’t get it.

Ya gotta wonder if anyone at Massdrop does any comp pricing before setting their own pricing.
Looks like i’ll Be getting mine today! Tracking says “Out for Delivery”. Man, that was quick. 👏🏼
Who else has already received theirs? And what are your impressions now that you have it in hand?
UPDATE: Well…Arrived. 🤔 Contacting Customer Support now. You can imagine why. Will report back after I’ve heard from them. 😐

Ok, let me explain. I was expecting this…

What I got was this…

Back it went. For something like this, that was marketed on its’ aesthetics, it wasn’t worth $120. Very disappointing. 🙁

I can see why your disappointed it’s not even close as the pictures provided for the drop!
Is the backside scale (clip side) that much differ from the front as the photos show? The front looks attractive, but the backside looks terrible. Now if both sides were the same appearance you’d have a sale.
This, and the quality control issues described below has me hesitant. 🤔

Maybe I'm misinterpreting the comments but is it a quality control issue or just a matter of the scales not looking as good as in the pictures?

It's definitely the consistency of the scales. Take a look at the sample pics provided. The front scale everyone agrees is quite attractive. But look at the scale on the clip side. It's just parallel wire mesh. No sculpted patterns as on the front. Very disappointing.
Naturally, that is just one sample. And the other photos I'm seeing online show very attractive patterns on both sides. So the chance of getting a good one is likely. Still, If I had received the one used in the sample photos here I would be very disappointed. If you scroll down you'll see one participant that received a very disappointing piece much like the one on the sample photos. Extremely plain with parallel lines instead of a sculpted (camo-like) pattern.
Since the very sample used in the photos above, and one participant here already showing a disappointing scale design, I'm concerned about the chances of getting one that won't be very pleasing.
Received mine today. Couldn’t be happier beautiful knife. Scales look great
Bought on the last drop but the scales are pretty plain. Since I don’t get a choice this is a knife I need to see before buying. I was hoping for something interesting.

WTF!
WTF!
Also available on knifecenter for $129.97 without the delay that usually accompanies Massdrop orders. Reading through the KC reviews there seem to be issues with inconsistent appearance on these scales too. Interesting knife, but not that good of a deal even if the $10 discount is applied. https://www.knifecenter.com/item/SP152RNP/spyderco-c152rnp-chaparral-folding-knife-cts-xhp-satin-plain-blade-raffir-noble-handles-coloration-and-pattern-may-vary-reviews#reviews
I've been looking for an EDC from Spyderco recently so this came along at just the right time. I love CTS-XHP steel and the Raffir handle is awesome looking. I'm in.
Looks wicked.
could anyone tell me the handle thickness of the Raffir Noble?
Illinois_knife_guy
About 5mm or 0.2 inches.
I'm interested in a Chaparral, but some who comment about it report a sharp lockbar. By design, the lockbar is the same width as the spine, and with such a thin blade, the lockbar is likewise thin. As a typical Taichung product, it has flat, sharp metallic edges. The result seems to be that in use the lockbar feels uncomfortably sharp to some. Can anyone comment on this? It's common that lock mechanisms become easier to use over time, and many reviews are done on new, unused knives. The other thing I'd like to know is whether the handle and ergonomics work for a large hand/XL glove size. Any idea how the handle feels compared to, say, a Native or Sage?

I have the titanium version.  i'd say the biggest negative is the force it takes to depress lockbar. nevertheless a very nice knife that I bought as an xmas gift

I have a CF/G-10 Chaparral now, and I found that moving the spring position back a bit made the lock bar tension just right for me.
The problem with massdrop is that their offerings are really no longer a drop. To make matters worse, one has to wait much longer to get their order. This is very disappointing. This knife is available everywhere for the same price. How is this offering from Massdrop even a drop?
MonTex
It's a pretty good deal for Massdrop too. Unlike any other retailers, they know exactly how many to order from the supplier and know you can't return it. Pass.
I got mine when they first came out. Beautiful knife and great slicer. Excellent for EDC but wouldn't recommend it for any heavy work as the blade is thin and delicate.

Thanks for the review, @wonbul!
I have this knife with carbon fiber scales - it's an excellent knife and I have never regretted buying it.
One thing that never gets mentioned in the Chaparrel's description is its pocket clip. The design of the clip and how it is connected to the handle allow it to ride quite a bit lower in a pocket than most of Spyderco's other pocket clips. It also can be repositioned for either point-up or point-down carry and for either left or right handed carry.

I love this type of clip and will only buy Spyderco knives with it.

I used to hate the wire clips but now I think they are the best.  besides what you mentioned they just work very well
This is a cool gentlemens carry. I got mine at the outlet in CO so I could pick the scales I liked the best. They all looked nice though and would have been happy with a random one if storefront wasn't an option.
Anyone have any experience with this steel?

I find the steel to be somewhat chippy but it keeps an edge for a while. I have a manix 2 in XHP. I haven't sharpened it yet, so I don't know how hard it is to sharpen.
I will contradict the previous poster and say I prefer S35VN, which is somewhat softer but not chippy, much tougher.
kaxixi
I have a few CSs in XHP. Good stuff.
Is it made in USA?
rpjayhawk
Taiwan.
Holy crap. <3" blade, XHP, Drop point, Back lock, Brass/Copper high gloss handle, standard Spydie Para/Tenac design, this is my wet dream holy grail Spydie, and the price is great also.
