Hackenslash I'm looking at prices for other Spyderco Exclusives (or Limited, or Special Edition, whatever you want to call it)....full disclosure, I've never owned a Spyderco knife yet......and holy crap, they're proud of their knives :p
The price on this Drop doesn't seem out of line to me when compared to their other specialty offerings. But again, I'm a total newbie in this area.

PahaniI think your analysis is spot on. Spyderco definitely has an "entry cost" associated with their knives. You see the same thing with Benchmade and, to a somewhat lesser extent, with ZT. Anytime a knife bears that Spyder Logo, there's a built in mark-up involved, but that's not a bad thing. As far as companies go, Spyderco is a great example of a manufacturer who participates in the knife community. The owner and creator, Sal Glesser, is active on a lot of enthusiast forums. It's a kick to have the creator of a knife explain to you the reasons they made a knife the way they did!
I've never minded paying more for a Spyderco because there really is a pride in ownership. One could argue that the High value/High quality knife market in China can trace its roots back to Spyderco developing manufacturing there 15-20 years ago.
I encourage you to take your first dip in the Spyderco pool and give one a try. If this Delica is a little too pricey, you can't go wrong with a standard Delica. In about a month the new Para3 will be coming out and that just might be the hottest knife of the year in the sub-$150 category. On the cheaper end, you can consider a Ambitious/Persistence/Tenacious/Resilience (pick the size that fits you) or even one of the Byrd knives.
I don't always love every Spyderco knife, but I respect the heck out of the company and am proud to own every one that I can.

HackenslashThanks for the reply! I'm a Becker fan for many of the reasons you listed..."Uncle Ethan" seems to be active and available to the public in several places. Plus, I greatly respect his support of Volunteer Fire Departments, having been a member myself years ago :)
I'm in on this Drop, and hope it makes the cutoff. I'll likely pick up a "standard" Spyderco in the near future to actually use.

HackenslashHey, just curious why you're stoked for the PM3, would love to hear a Spyderco enthusiasts POV. I have a Spyderco Techno titanium and I'm waiting on the Pingo. I have to say I love my Techno and am in fact in on this blade but I'm seriously on the fence about it. I half buy knives to collect but mainly to use them on a daily basis and appreciate the idiosyncrasies of the tool...and also to admire the beauty of them haha!

CDRWilsonThe PM2 does so many things right:
1. Quality, grippy G10
2. Nested liners for strength
3. Great ergos for most hands
4. Great FFG slicing blade
5. Available in a wide variety of steels
6. Great bladeshape for everything from food prep to draw cuts
7. Easily deployed by hole or compression flick
8. Brings one of the very best locks in the business. The compression lock doesn't care if you're left or right handed or even arthritic. It's positive and strong, second only to a good Axis (maybe)
If the PM3 can bring all these features with a blade just under 3", that will be amazing. I work in an upscale office environment and need lightweight knives that won't frighten sheeple for my EDC.
My only concern is that the smaller knife won't feel "right", but I guess we'll know soon.
