dttmtongTheir Taichung knives are supposed to be really good. I believe that's where they make most of the high end knives.

dttmtongNot really when you look at the materials. Spyderco also has good fit, finish, and functional design. Unfortunately the Left-side, tip down only carry is a deal breaker for me.

dttmtongI like the look of this, but it isn't a great first knife. I would recommend a Delica, or Native 5 if you are looking for something Spyderco. Maybe an endura or PM2 if you want something larger.

fhoodGood call. If you have legal restrictions and need the short blade, the dragonfly is a good choice.

dttmtongFor a first knife I'd definitely recommend picking up something cheaper. The Delica is a good starter pick. it's not the most aesthetically pleasing but it's one of the best for blade design, cutting prowess, and easy carry. If you like something with more of a straight edge, the Ontario RAT series and the Steel Will Cutjack are good picks. If you're looking for a sheepsfoot style blade, the Steel Will Modus is a good pick. Also I highly recommend you look for D2 or VG-10 steel. They're both excellent mid-range steels.
Additionally, if you're looking for quality, US vs. China doesn't matter that much. Most quality chinese makers use American or Japanese steel anyway (which is why I avoid AUS-8). If it's a matter of buying domestically vs. foreign, you're probably going to end up paying more for the same or lesser quality.
