Sturmanskie, which means “for Navigator” in Russian, is one of the few remaining Russia-based watch manufacturers. One of just 2,000 pieces, this limited-edition timepiece is styled just like the watch that Yuri Gagarin, the first man in space, wore on his 1961 journey that would change the course of history forever Read More

Really Drop? At this point it's agreed upon by many US Intelligence Agencies and our allies that the Russians were putting bounties on American and Coalition soldiers in Afghanistan, and the deaths of three US Marines have directly resulted because of this. The Russians where never our "friends," but especially now, as American citizens knowing what we know, do you think it's time to stop celebrating a hostile foreign country actively trying to kill American troops? It was first the CCCP watch and now the Sturmanskie - very poor judgement on your part. I've purchased items from many categories and I LOVE your products, but the insensitivity to this reality is becoming a barrier for me to continue doing business with you. Am I the only one on this? What does everyone else think?
mattmag1I think you should throw away all of your electronics because the components come from China. How is Sturmanskie liable for the actions of the Russian government? Can we blame Ford Motors for the kids in cages the US government keeps? Your bigotry is rather pronounced.
Nice and fun looking piece, with its vintage design and russian texting. The price is also decent, even though I'm clueless about the quality of the Vostok movement.
I'd be highly tempted, had I not just purchased the ugliest watch on earth to funk my collection up (or down, depending on the perspective): a 1976 Orient LCD watch.
Well to be honest, it was @Mike987 who pointed me in the right direction, but it's just another example of the many things one can learn about here on good old MD. We're all the wiser for the shared experience.
Now if they could just get some decent deals on watches around here ;- )

RayFOh yes if they could only get us some decent watch deals... too much to ask I guess lol
TRUE FACT:
In the Russian remake of the film "Interstellar", Matthew McConaughey's Russian double gives his young daughter "Murphski", a Sturmanskie Gagarin Limited-edition Automatic watch instead of the Hamilton Khaki Murph watch used in the American version of the film.
search
The switch up had disastrous unforeseen consequences: because the Sturmanskie Gagarin Limited-edition wasn't capable of sending Morris Code like the Hamilton was. Accordingly, Matthew McConaughey's Russian double wasn't able to communicate the secrets of the future back to young Murphski, who therefore wasn't able save the earth!
In the last scene of the Russian version, the Earth bursts into flames and explodes, and our entire population perishes!
While opinions on the subject differ, many Russians blame the Sturmanskie Gagarin Limited-edition (and to some degree, the depressing ending) for the film's ultimate failure at the Russian box-office. As a result, copies of the Russian film are extremely rare--as are instances of actual Russians wearing a Sturmanskie Gagarin Limited-edition Automatic watch!
We shall go doodley doddle if we were to associate every product of a country with its history. None is without skeletons in its cupboards. Some have more than others but then also at what point in history are we taking that snapshot.
I feel like it's.... really overpriced for a vostok 2416, a movement made from old melted down borscht cans and t34 tanks.
The 2416 is a rugged but kind of spectacularly inaccurate movement. I have had to repair more than a few and getting the f**king things to actually keep time even reasonably (+/- 5 seconds/day) is such a chore.
The 2416 makes a lot of sense in something half the price, like the amphibia or komandirskie. In the amphibia, you want reliability over all else, losing a quarter or half second matters very little on a dive when your computer died and you need to time your ascent from a deep dive.
I like that they kept it all in-country, but does Russia not make any better movements than the 2416?
Alan_GI have a vintage Raketa and a vintage Pobeda naval officer issue - both are really accurate, though I did accidentally break the mainspring in the Raketa when winding it - it was probably just getting old. Still need to fix it. The Pobeda is neat, but you can probably hear it ticking right now from wherever in the world you're sitting. Fucker is LOUD.
Vintage soviet watches are totally the cheapest way to get into vintage watch collecting, too. Russians do REALLY cool things with dials, and nice working ones with fresh leather bands can be had for $35-55 from old soviet bloc countries (I always feel bad when I order from this nice Ukranian vendor who has to explicitly state on his page that the literal war with Russia in his country isn't impacting his shipping)
But, those watches are both vintage hand winds. Are they still around and making good in-house movements?
FolioI am convinced it is impossible to catch everything in these listings. Anyway, it is a two year warranty from our company supported by the manufacturer.

They are saying, people old enough to recall the significance of the event this watch commemorates are not expected to live longer than two more years.
But Mickey was the first mouse—people often forget that.

I feel like if Steve1989MRE from YouTube collected watches, he’d have one of these.
For those of you who are looking up his videos for the first time, you’re welcome.
Nice.
WatchyoutalkingaboutThe best thing about Steve is that he's just so. Fucking. Wholesome.
And once you DO know who he is, you start to notice that other huge youtubers will reference him EVERYWHERE. Babish in particular will do "let's get this out onto a tray" and "nice" all the damn time.
Steve's channel is possibly the best thing you never knew you needed in your life until you found it. The dude just eats MRE's. But it's somehow so more just because of him.
I have one of his merch shirts, neon color portrait of him with "BOTULISM CITY" in neon 80's color/font.

HoneybadgersBabish, beard meats food, and even the king himself Reviewbrah have all dropped little hints.
The actual history lessons he provides are my favorite parts. He’s clearly knowledgeable and a very high end ‘collector’ in the world of MRE hobbyists - which makes us watch snobs look positively sane in comparison.
Who else living currently on the planet besides him has eaten something from the freaking CIVIL WAR?!
"Sturmanskie, which means “navigator” in Russian..."
Not correct, "Sturman" means "Navigator" is Russian.
"Sturmanskie" means "For Navigator, used by Navigator".
