You are much better off buying Glycine for only $100 more. Better movement, better looKS and better value. These were clearly modeled after Glycine F104 and Base 22. Soviet watch never had 24 hour dial before so the claim that they are following some kind of tradition is false.

error404Soviet watches absolutely had 24 movements. Vostok has been making that movement for decades. Poljot made pilot watches for decades with 24 hour movements. This isn't difficult to verify.

Dash30dashI lived there for 25 years and never seen one. I guess there is always something to learn. Still my opinion about Glycine better value and design stands.

error404Glycine doesn't have the history this does. The Soviets were first in almost everything with regards to space (first sattelite in space, first animal, first man, first woman, first space walk, first space station.) Many of these cosmonauts wore a Sturmanskie of some variety.

ANevskyGlycine has been around since 1905. They make very high quality watches. The Russians can make anything but most of their military watches were inexpensive and ruggedly made. They lacked the finesse of the Swiss watch making art. Here's a 24 hour model from Russia featuring the Raketa 2609H movement, sold as grey market for about $80. It runs very well, mechanical, not auto, and has 12 noon at the top, where it belongs...(-; I agree, for only $100 extra you get the Glycine Combat Sub which is the far superior watch. I love mine. Enjoy.

GugliermoNice piece there... Looks like one of the old Raketa cases. I have actually never seen a 24 hour with noon at the top before.

Dash30dashThanks Dash, yes, it is an old Raketa case. I should correct my previous statement, Glycine Combat Subs are far superior to these older Sturmanskie/Poljot/Raketa watches but since the advent of CNC manufacturing techniques and the fact that Sturmanskie is now Swiss owned (Volmax) I would say that the new Sturmanskies are a different animal and most likely of high quality, on par with the Glycines. Word has it that they are providing hairsprings and other parts to Swiss manufacturers when those have difficulty obtaining ETA parts. The 2609 movement is rugged and reliable and totally inhouse made. My 25 year old Sturmanskie, bought for $20 is running strong without ever having been serviced. I'll bet it's new Swiss made brother is a gem. Thanks for the link.

GugliermoIf you're getting a Glycine, now is the time. Invicta has put all the current models on fire-sale and is sure to kill (ie., Invicta design) the brand.
FWIW, I have a combat sub and a Sturmanskie... I love them both

GugliermoThat is a very nice piece.
Do you know if any modern examples with 12 at the top?

WhichwaydidheGoUnfortunately I don't. There were still some of these Raketa based NOS ones last time I checked but no modern production with the 12 at high noon that I know of.

WhichwaydidheGoIt's a good looking watch, if you can live with a quartz movement that jumps one second at a time..... (-;

GugliermoI actually don't like the giant chrome anchor. It was more an example of a "new" watch with 12 at the top. This gives me hope that if I keep digging I can find an auto that I like, or maybe one of those Raketas. I didn't even know they existed until you demo'd it here.

error404I'm sorry but you are wrong. Russia (Soviet Union) produced true 24 hour watches since 1960s. Different brands like Raketa, Vostok, Sturmanskie. Especially 24h Raketas were produced en masse. No doubt, that there are much more 24h Russian/Soviet watches produced than 24h Swiss watches, all brands together.

error404The first watch in space was a Sturmanskie. I don't know if Russians started wearing Fortis and Omega after the USSR collapsed.
