Nice to see this as a drop. I just bought one directly from Tactile Turn in December. It's a solid pen, but please note that the polycarbonate model is fairly light, so if you prefer more weight in your hand, go for one of the metal bodies.

robfieldsI've had one in all-copper for a while. It's not to be engaged with lightly. tl;dr, I love the pen. Given the chance, I'd still buy it over the Karas Fountain K (which my wife has!). But have a good read, below. It's not without its foibles.
I got it with the 1.1mm stub nib. Had lots of issues with hard starts and skipping. Shelled out $10 for a Nemosine 0.6mm stub and haven't looked back. Definitely an upgrade over the nib that shipped with the pen. Any appropriately sized nib should work (Goulet sells many).
The spiral pattern cut into the pen (it's a spiral, not concentric rings) is pleasantly grippy. The grip has developed a nice patina, but the body of the pen is still pretty shiny, due to constant rubbing. Fair warning: your hands _will_ smell like copper!
The cut edges are sharp. At the nib of the pen, the metal is exceptionally thing, and prone to bending and disforming. My cap is ever so slightly out of round from being dropped once (still works fine, but it's perceivable). The threads for the cap are not nearly as smooth as the Karas Fountain K; they're not double (triple?) helix cut, and will bind if misaligned. You get used to twisting the cap backward until you feel it settle, and then screwing it on. The threads wear in and smooth out a bit over time. You cannot just spin the body of the pen closed and feel the satisfying bite of perfect threading lock it into place like the Fountain K. Hands-down, the Fountain K's cap threading wins the show...
I've had the grip work loose from the body, on occasion. If you screw it in too tight, it's a pain to get loose... but if it loosens, and you screw on the cap... be prepared to buy a new nib. I crushed one. =) The cap does not fit flush with the pen body, and there's air space between the cap and the pen... if you drop the pen, it's heavy enough to deform the cap to the pen body.
The pen body is short. A standard international long cartridge JUST fits. As in, you can feel the pen squishing the plastic body of the cart as you screw in the grip.
The clip is great. Doesn't come out of a pocket. Bites dress shirts and jeans alike. It will drag a dress shirt pocket down to your knees, though. Copper's heavy. Clip design is more elegant than a Fountain K, in my opinion.

All-in all, I love the pen. These are foibles. Definitely worth knowing what you're getting, though. If you'd like to hear any specific differences between the copper Gist and Fountain K... I have access to both.

It's a great pen, but don't get the polycarbonate one. I got one during the Kickstarter. It writes really well, but the material started breaking at the bottom of the cap. I've emailed the proprietor multiple times and gotten no response. I think it's just the material, so probably any other material he has would work well.
Send me an email at will@tactileturn.com and I'll get you a new cap. I got some time to redesign the polycarbonate caps at the end of December to add more material to the bottom of the polycarbonate caps and it has fixed the issue.

Unless he has redesigned the Gist from the Kickstarter design, I would not buy this pen. The cap threads and the way the cap is designed is flawed. I bought two in the makrolon and both of them have cracked and chipped around the cap threads. This is not unique to me and you can find other examples if you search for them. I think he is used to working with metals and didn't design the cap with the strength (or lack of it compared to metals) of makrolon in mind.
Buy with caution.
Absolutely! Not sure how I missed your emails.

Does this come with ink/cartridge or do I have to buy it separately? Also which nib is a good recommendation for a newbie who likes low friction writing?
They are quite light pens, but if the nib hits a hard floor from counter height it'll pretty much definitely do damage.

Perhaps I'm overlooking it, but how is this pen filled? I've seen reviews mentioning the pen body is too short for a standard Schmidt converter.
mjthompsoIt comes with a converter. They use converters that are the same as the ones that come with Kaweco pens which are slightly shorter than standard international converters.

This is the newer, slightly longer version of the Gist. The Ti version was just reviewed by Figboot on YouTube, and looks really nice.

What's the ink capacity like compared to a regular international converter? I really love the design, but I'm a little worried about the ink capacity, considering it uses the similar size piston converter as a Kaweco Sport.

Got one of these during the Kickstarter campaign & I am loving it thus far. Writes smoothly, feels great, & looks great too. I got the polycarbonate with the steel grip. It's super light and writes like a dream. Can't say enough about the quality of the work. Also, when I contacted the company about a previous purchase, he was very prompt on the reply, so I can vouch for the customer service as well!

I have one (poly/brass/brass) and I'm in for two more. The Gist is my favorite fountain pen in so many ways; the only thing that would make me love it more is if it was a piston filler instead of a converter pen. The weight, balance, threads, clip, feel, are all truly incredible.
Going for an all copper and a poly/ti/ti with ti nib this go around, for my 2nd and 3rd Gists, and 5th and 6th total Tactile Turn pens.

Hello everyone,
We have noticed a pricing error in the Stainless Steel body finish (entire pen model), pricing has been updated accordingly (from +$47 --> +$85). For those of you that have already joined for the Stainless Steel finish, we will honor the pricing as is (@ + $47), changes should be reflected shortly. Apologies for the confusion and error, and thank you all for your support on this drop.
