What is SpaceFN and why you should give it a try
The SpaceFN concept - setting up your space key as a layer switch when held - is probably one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby. Let me explain how it works. My SpaceFN article on kbd.news made some rounds recently - quite surprisingly given the age of this concept. This piece you're reading is a condensed version of the full post. If you're left with unanswered questions, you'll most likely find the info you're looking for in the original write-up. On my imaginary top list of the most useful keyboard features, tweaks and hacks, SpaceFN would deserve a podium finish for sure. But what makes it so special? In short: SpaceFN is easy to implement, easy to learn, costs nothing, can be used with any keyboard, and can improve your productivity instantly. I will list its benefits below, but can state right at this point that the SpaceFN concept, setting up your space key as a layer switch when held, is clearly one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby....

I am new to this and am about to order a few sets of Base, Modifiers, Numpad and Novelties. What would be some good boards to use these with? I am looking for either brown or blue switches.
Also if I get a board with a windows key will the Novelties cover those?
I really love the colors of this set and it will match my desk.
Also I am interested in a gamepad. Should the Numpad cover a gamepad? I use a Logitech G11 and really love the rows of programmable keys to the left. I realize that is probably not possible in a mechanical board but would be interested if there are any options.
Very broad question you have there. So the "Windows" key is covered in the Modifiers by the "System" key. Many designers will use labels like SYSTEM, HYPER, META, SUPER instead of WINDOWS because it makes a more generic term that users of all OS' can use, and sometimes it just fits the theme of the set better.
The WASD keyboards are always good, for cheap boards the Cooler Master QFR series are always good as well. Pretty much any mechanical keyboard with a standard layout will work well for you. The key thing to look for is that all of the Modifiers to either side of the spacebar are the same size. Here is an example:
The numpad will really just cover numpads, not really the dedicated gamepads. If you have any more questions let me know!
Thats what I use at work . Although I got one of the rare white boards, with the white baseplate. Debating on getting these keys for it but I don't think they'd suit a white keyboard.
