verifonixI've used them a few times, and they've always been stellar. They also tend to have way better than average warranty. Back in the day, I wouldn't say it was customer service exactly, but they had the same issue as this Topping and did not handle it well. They've improved a lot since, though.
racheskiMuch appreciated. It can take a bit to find the info in the specs that can be seen in a second with a good pic. Heck folks out of the US can quickly see the power adapted needed if they need to roll their own 15v solution.
Be careful before you plug in any expensive headphones to this amp! JohnYang over at ASR has done so much handwaving to avoid admitting Topping have no clue on if the 'fix' works or not. Buyer be-very-ware!
If you are familiar with the process, do you mind going into more detail on the process and places where he could of improved, such as using higher voltages? What corrective actions are usually taken in scenarios where the product fails?
Providing those details would go far to educate others on the issue then just saying a company "sucks" over and over.
As far as additional failures, I haven't seen any where more headphones are blowing up which means DC protection is probably working. Some failures seem to be due to the ESD mitigations not being installed correctly on 2012 SN models. People are still getting replacements for failures.
GiantHeadphoneSquid was spreading fud on them not replacing headphones and provided a poor summary on the fixes implemented.
I had an early SN L30 that failed and sent DC out to the headphones. Luckily it didn't damage anything. Got my money back, waited a bit for newer revisions, and now I have one with the mitigations. If it fails again I'll be sure to post back here.
I don't know about this though.
As an entry level audiophile (99 Noirs|1990 Pros|NuForce EDCs|T2) who uses the first version of this stack (D30+A30) I'm disappointed.
As much as the NFCA and low distortion are pretty nice upgrades, for the price of 220$ on AliExpress for example you can get essentially around the same quality DAC/AMP with bluetooth, from Topping (I.E. the DX3 Pro). And it sometimes pops up here for even cheaper...
I'd honestly save up those extra 70$ for a Modius (200) instead of the E30 purely for the balanced outputs, so that you could eventually still use it when you upgrade.
As for the L30 - Switching the power connector is also a godsend but not having a 3.5mm input on an entry level amp is something I don't like at all... You'd usually have entry level headphones come with a 3.5mm and a 1/4" adapter, so why do I have to use these adapters when I want to listen to my IEMs or something.
FireChargeThe L30 amp has the same power as the A90 when used single ended, the DX3 Pro can't compete there, the L30 should power almost any headphone with no problem.
And if you want to save money and don't mind non matching units, the D10s is a great DAC to pair with the L30. So is the SMSL Sanskrit 10th Mk2.
TercoAnd they're shipping all items with free DHL Express at the moment. If it weren't for a customs snafu, it would have only taken three days to get to my house in the northeast U.S. from Shenzhen.
TercoWhat drop should do is have a store like Apos and then try to group buy for obsolete(older) product or product that a manufacture is trying to move.
verifonixGot my pair from Apos a week ago. It's a nice bundle, and was packaged very well.
Compared to my MX3, the L30 has a lot more power, I am running my Elegia's on the -9db setting, and rarely go above 12 o'clock. I can't even find the noise floor.
I had the L30 for a couple of weeks and found the sound boring and the power was not as strong as their specs stated. The other new amp I have is the IFI Zen Can and I prefer it much better for overall sound and power. It drives my Beyerdynamic 250 ohm Dt 770's and Dt 990's with more authority and they just sound better. I also like the synergy with the HD58X and Zen Can. My DAC is a Schiit Modi 2 Uber. I sent the L30 back. I didn't know about the problem with the L30 and was lucky it didn't blow up my phones.
Statement from Topping: https://www.facebook.com/2495577743786403/posts/3978806902130139/?d=n
They are offering to exchange all units with serial number starting with 2011 or less.
UPDATE: Topping customer service has informed me that replacement service for Drop customers is provided by shenzhenaudio.
I also reached out to Topping customer service and they replied saying that shenzhenaudio will provide replacement services directly to Drop customers. I have contacted support@shenzhenaudio.com and let's see how they handle this.
Once upon a time I tried to get shenzhenaudio to price match Drop.com (for an xDuoo I think), and they replied saying that they will not price match Drop.com since "Drop doesn't provide after-sale services" and they do. I guess this is what they mean... But I'm glad that Topping made arrangements with shenzhenaudio to take care of us.
iucoenThanks for the heads up! I just sent them an email as well. I've gotten mixed reviews over Drop's customer service but this will probably be my last purchase here. I'd rather have the ability to exchange in case anything goes wrong over saving $24.
Is it just me or did these suddenly get a lot more expensive? Even outside of the black friday deals ($117 I want to say), these were only ~$130 last week.
It's bizarre, there are reports of these nuking headphones popping up everywhere, and Topping RAISE their prices lol?
People in the US have nothing to worry about, JDS and even Schiit now are winning price/performance vs Chifi already, this just increases their lead.
Topping's price increase is in EU and AU etc as well as far as I know. . . these folks lack a better domestic option(s) :(
