I gave a continuing problem with this DAC which was annoying but is now a problem.
Every now and then all audio will stop for a 2 seconds and then anything that was tied to that audio like a video or game will then pause and wait for the video pr game to catch up. this is really annoying but now is causing online games to actually stop me in game and wait for that to catch up maen while everyone else continues on and I am suddenly a few positions back in a race.
What is causing this constant de-sync? is there something mis-configured or a buffer that runs out or something. It is completely random but does seem to be more common when two things are playing audio at the same time.
There are also other problems with static and noise but only when certain things are on screen.

ZibobHave you tried a different USB port? On my system, USB ports attached to the CPU tend to work best.

brutuscatI am pretty sure I tried this when I first got it but I am giving it another go now. I am not completely sure which are connected directly to the CPU but should my switch to the USB 3 pots from the 2 result in the same problem I will definitely find out and try again.
Thanks for the reply. This DAC was really a test to see if a more expensive one later would actually render any difference over the motherboard audio. So far this is a complete failure. I am hoping it can be fixed but not exactly holding out hope based on some others reviews. I hear a lot of good praise for the sound but also some for bad build quality and the ones that describe close to what is happening to me seem to result in a dead item after some time.

brutuscatThank you very much, this has fixed the stuttering and stopping issue. The static is lower too but that is just shielding issues, odd that is is related to the colour of things on screen and how they are moving but that is a problem for another time and possibly a new PC, which is due and upgrade anyway.

brutuscatOkay not to pester you but this is worse than ever now.
It will work on a USB2 port but with the problems as original. It worked on the USB 3 port but now it will not make sound. Everything is find according to windows but there are warnings in the event viewer that DriverFrameworks-User Mode is failing and it is only to do with this DAC. There is no solution as this is a deiverless DAC so I have to rely on windows to fix itslef which it wont do as everything is fine, and indeed all the information says it is fine, and appears to be making sound but nothing comes out of the DAC itself.
I am seriously regretting ever entertaining the idea of a DAC now, this is a nightmare. I can have it working but breaking the audio randomly and everything else along with it to resync or no audio at all. Great.
EDIT: I looked up which USB ports are tied to the CPU and which are not. All the USB 2 ports that cause the stuttering problems are CPU based. The USB 3 ports which worked but now don't for some reason are from a controller.

brutuscatAt this stage it is really not worth you try8ng to trouble shoot it. I have been going through this on a forum else where. Windows has screwed me over big style. I have also come to my own conclusion that driverless DACs are not worth the headache. Once the windows driver breaks a fresh install is all you can do to fix it. I am not nukeing my stable running PC just for this DAC.
I tried their asio driver and it refuses to evennshiw a device plugged in. Their other icon drivers are the same.
So the DAC works. But due to it being driverless and windows eating itself it is effectively a brick. Never again.
Thanks for your help.
Edit: yes my motherboard sound work fine. And honestly is cleaner sound. The DAC has constant static or hum, due to poor USB shielding I guess on the motherboard. So I would need a new windows install and a new PC to get reasonable use out of this DAC. That is just not worth it in the slightest.

ZibobYour issues are driving me away from this which is a good thing. My current portable dac/amp is working very well. Would hate to see you give up on sound overall. If you feel like giving it another go, I highly recommend the CEntrance DACport Slim featured here on Massdrop from time to time.
There is a very long discussion with responses from the company to help answer questions or troubleshoot potential issues. This equipment powers my Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic 250ohm, and my AKG K7xx extremely well. Look into it if you feel like giving it another shot and good luck!

ZibobNot sure if this will help you, but the USB ports at the back plate (see picture below) are directly wired to the motherboard and tend to have less interference. Other USB ports are connected to the motherboard via (usually cheap) cables snaking around the inside of the case and are very exposed to interference.
In fact, many higher end motherboards now have dedicated USB ports for USB audio (as shown in the picture). The signal path for these ports are better insulated/separated from other components. Be sure to look for this if you upgrade your computer. (In fact, some of these higher end boards are already equipped with high quality op-amps and capacitors, making a separate DAC/amp unnecessary for a lot of people.)
The symptom of being affected when colours change on your screen suggests that your video card is causing the interference. You can try to physically move your video card to a slot further away from the USB ports, if you have an extra x16 PCIe slot. (The slight disadvantage is that on lower end motherboards, other PCIe slots may not give you full bandwidth for your video card. But this is very technical and you likely won't notice a difference unless you are a hardcore gamer).
Here is an example of USB connectors at the back plate, with yellow USB connectors for audio.
