The listed hip belt sizes on the drop and on ULA's website are different. Any suggestion on how to reconcile this? ULA's website lists Small <30", Medium 30"-36", and Large >36" Drop is Small 30"-34", Medium 34"-38", and Large 38"-42"

mcomptonDamn, I hope they adjust this, because I selected a small hip belt size based on the Drop specs instead of the ULA website.

Not the lightest, but light enough for my intended use, long day hikes, warm weather overnight, and winter hiking/snowshoeing when extra gear is needed for emergencies. The custom size for a day pack is the biggest reason for purchasing. it is hard to find a smaller pack that fits right off the shelf.

How are returns and exchanges handled for this? This will be a gift and need the option if it doesn't fit.

I was pretty excited to see ULA coming out with a frameless 35L pack, and hoped they'd be competing in the ultralight category with the likes of the Zimmerbuilt, MLD, Zpacks, Gossamer Gear, etc. But alas, this offering weighs double what those 30-40L packs do. And really no weight savings over it's big brother the CDT! Looks like a great pack, but it's not going to be competitive in the multi-day UL world. Probably a great pack for short excursions where weight is not an issue.

idoc72You are absolutely right. If you are looking for the lightest, simplest frameless pack, then this is not for you. But, it might be the perfect pack for me. I'm blessed/cursed with broad shoulders and a long torso. So, many of the lightest (one size doesn't fit all) packs simply don't fit me. The shoulder straps are too narrow and the pack rides up too high to be comfortable. But, ULA packs do fit me -- because I have the option of long torso size and S shaped straps. Also, I like using a hipbelt, I know that isn't what the cool kids are doing these days. but it works for me. And finally, I think the Robic materials in the ULA packs are actually more durable and functional than DCF for backpacks. All that being said, and much to my wife's disbelief...when this thing comes in, I fully expect that some modifications will be made. I recently saw a post where this pack was trimmed down to <15 oz. I doubt I'll do anything that drastic, but you never know.

TAGinAZI expect the Photon's fit and robust construction will exceed most sub 15oz packs - I guess it's a bit of pipe dream to want the ULA build at that kind of weight! Looking at the list of "optional" features on the ULA website, you can probably get it down around 20 oz without getting too crazy.

Great pack idea, unfortunately it’s not lighter than the CDT

JpstewartI really don't care about a difference of 4 ounces on a day hike, do you?

LoadedpocketzAmen! This looks like a great replacement for my tried and true, 15 year-old Osprey Eclipse 32 (L) which weighs in at 2 lbs 14 oz (46 ounces).
