Quick update for those of you participating in the drop!
We have received fulfillment info from the wonderful folks over at UE in regards to your orders. They have been very hard at work, working non-stop getting your molds processed and producing these truly hand made IEMs for you. Currently these are the shipping estimates we have from them.
Batch 1 will be shipping out from them to us by 1/21 and ship from us the same day it arrives
Batch 2 will be shipping out from them to us by 1/27 and ship from us the same day it arrives
Batch 3 will be shipping out from them to us by 2/3 and ship from us the same day it arrives
Batch 4 shipped out from us to them today
Batch 5 will be shipping out from us to them on 1/23 (get those molds in please!)
To find out what batch you are in please go into your transaction page and under the order for your reference IEMs will be a gray option box, which shows the batch you are in. Currently all of them state Batch 5, but we are updating those values to reflect the correct status. All statuses should be updated to reflect the correct batch by 9 PM PT today (1/16).
If you have any questions or concerns about your order please go into your transaction page and select contact support next to the order info for the Custom IEMs.
We can’t wait to hear the communities feedback when these large batches start going out very soon!

HassanSWhy is my batch status marked Batch 5? Not okay. It was to be updated by yesterday. Either it was not updated as promised, or my order has been misplaced. I've submitted my ear impressions well before the first deadline, and got a confirmation on 12/17/2014 that it was received.
I've contacted support. Has others checked their batch status? Is yours updated?

yeky83I sent mine before the first wave deadline. My order has been designated as batch #2. I hope your issue is resolved quickly.

yeky83I'm betting that what Massdrop did amounts to a rush job in implementation, and yours fell into the cracks. Hopefully this gets fixed, but with how things have been, it might be two weeks before they respond with a well-thought post.

wild_oneMy best guess is the Batch 1 folks are the ones that had their impressions done at UE in Irvine, CA. Pending confirmation of payment, those impressions would have been ready for UE to start work on before the customer even walked out the door.
Edit: meant to reply to @Sherlocked

ExeunterThat doesn't make sense, since if they considered the two done at UE as batch 1, they wouldn't have theirs already by now.

ExeunterInteresting revelation. My impressions arrived at UE about a day or two before Massdrop sent theirs out and I'm on batch 2.
How I sent my impressions to UE is a story for another time...

ExeunterOk, that really makes no sense now. There were the first three, two of which were done at UE before the drop finished and one with earlier impression. Then there was the first batch from Massdrop, which got split with two separate from that, of which one was yours. That implies a distinct cutoff point for impressions done at UE and a very intentional snub by UE of the first Massdrop shipment. I can't help but get a lower opinion of UE as this drop goes on.
This would also mean that our impressions were not UE's highest priority upon return from holiday, unless they really are limited to maybe 5 pair a day. Break it down by batch and it's even worse, needing 13 business days to make just two pair for the first batch.

ExeunterTo clarify there were 3 units sent in by Dec 9th that are not part of the batches above that have already shipped out to group participants. The two units that are in batch 1 came in after them.

wild_oneThere was a batch before batch 1 that included 3 units. Those were not included in the above write-up since they had already shipped to customers. Unfortunately to exclude them to avoid confusion has led to more confusion. My apologies for this.

ExeunterThe dates posted are estimates designed to include regular hiccups that may arise. More than likely the units will ship out to us before the dates listed.

HassanSThose three included the two that had impressions done at UE before the Dec 9th, and one person that already had impressions from a prior CIEM that were still good. What irks me about this is that mine were with Massdrop on Dec 8th, and I would have had a clear shot of already having mine if they were already sent out on that arbitrary cutoff point.
The whole process of doing this in batches has added significantly more than what any sane person would call a small delay, so in terms of how this drop was run, I can't help but give it a failing grade for all parties involved.

wild_oneHi @wild_one,
I am truly sorry that you are unhappy with your experience so far with this drop. We do appreciate your feedback and will definitely be using it when we run future drops like this. Please continue to post suggestions/feedback as it allows us to know what the community prefers in how we handle drops.
In regards to this, the posted dates are goals UE has set to finish the batches. So it is very likely that they will finish these before the date listed for your batch. I understand this still doesn't solve the your specific complaints as you currently don't have the product in hand, but both Massdrop and UE are working non-stop to get these to you ASAP.

HassanSAll in all, this drop just feels like a comedy of errors and miscommunication. Lucky for you, from the estimated completion date of batch 2 I expect for my pair to arrive Feb 4, so it completely misses my trip. Even if it ships early I don't expect for it to be sitting all that long before I open it up.

wild_oneMy impressions was delivered to UE on 9/12/2014 according to USPS tracking. They took a week to "receive" the impressions, no idea what went wrong here. No biggie as there was some misunderstanding involved and I'd rather not share the story here.
Since my impressions were with UE before those that Massdrop sent out arrived, I'd expect to be on batch 1 but things happens and I'm on batch 2; no biggie on this one too.
Obviously doing things in batches is Massdrop's way to keep cost low, and the inherent downside is a longer lead time. Now we can't really complain since we got about $300 discount. Here's a diagram:

Now on how this entire drop was ran, I'd give it a FUBAR, no questions asked. The combination of the 2 weeks shutdown and Danny being mugged; which leads to a lack of response, really gave this whole drop an upgrade from SNAFU to FUBAR.

MachIt wasn't so much as a way to keep costs low, but UE's desire to have logistics handled by Massdrop. In a way, it makes sense since Massdrop probably handles more volume than UE does, but having such a granular schedule simply backfired when the shutdown became known.

yeky83This is Massdrop, where the wait is part of the service. Hassan will probably know more by the end of the week where there's a chance of batch 2 UERM arriving at Massdrop. If they really aren't part of batch 2 is when the serious investigation happens, I think.

HassanSAgain, I need an update please.
To recap, I should be under Batch 2, but I'm marked Batch 5. Batch 5 means my ear impressions have not been sent to UE yet. And if in the case that you misplaced my ear impressions, I need to send a new one to you by 1/23, your deadline for shipping to UE. You have not given me any response, meaning there could be even further delays.
It should be pretty easy to answer. Either my order has been misplaced, or my batch # hasn't been updated. I'm hoping it's the latter and not the former, but I need a response.
There's a major error on my $700 order, please respond accordingly.
I've been in contact with you Hassan, and customer support. Both of you have delayed responding with "looking into this" responses. It has been 4 business days since your initial mistake and my asking for support.
Please respond.
