¡Woooo Hoooo! . . . . has arrived at last, appears undamaged, and is as described. Appears to be able to fit my needs: ie to carry on occasion a group tent (7 kgs of Hilleberg Altai fly/inner/floor/poles) on the frame, plus fit my really long back: to provide an example, it carries (with this big tent strapped to the frame) as much or more volume as my excellent 1.1kg Exped Lightning 60 with the same tent inside, fits my 6'4" back length better, has an equally good belt, and has even better - the Exped is really good - lumbar support. Am really pleased so far. Great drop, which made this otherwise unaffordable backpack available.

I couldn't find phone number for Massdrop on the website, and had not received a response to my on-site form submission, nor a response to my Facebook message to Massdrop, so I did a whois on the domain and found a phone number. Spoke to someone there who said they would take care of it, and email me an update. No email yet but my fingers are crossed that maybe someday I'll get my backpack. I had hoped to be using it on my training hikes by now (trying to get into shape and do shake downs for a hike of the 2650 mile PCT in April). If I don't get the backpack before too long I'll do a chargeback on the credit card and then just order the backpack direct from Vargo, and pay for overnight by FedEx - and I'll learn my lesson and ensure that I never order anything that is shipped via DHL again, their customer service is more than a joke, it is a comedy show.

Vargo finally responded, they say Massdrop is the one who ships things out and referred me back to them to try to get my backpack sent to me in Missouri instead of China... but no response from Massdrop - support forms submitted on website,, comments on Facebook, but so far not even the courtesy of acknowledging my report.

@Map1 and @shoarthing - I hear you and I hope I can shed a little light on the situation.
Normally everything ships from the vendor to our warehouse, where it then gets distributed to our community. In this case, the backpacks are large and the quantities small, so we arranged to ship directly from our vendor to you. By some mistake, the vendor defaulted to shipping to our warehouse. That, however, has no bearing on the issues you're facing right now, but I wanted to clarify why we stated it would be shipped by our vendor and it actually ended up being shipped by Massdrop.
The package shows up as 27 pounds in DHL, even though it weighs about 3 pounds (backpack plus packaging) because large, light items gets charged at "dimensional weight", which is a combination of weight and size. It's kind of like an oversize fee. DHL's tracking system is not flexible enough to state that this is 3 lbs and very large, so instead it states the simplified shipping weight equivalent cost, as if it was normal sized by 27 lbs. Believe me, I wish our large ultralight items would ship at their actual weight, and not dimensional rate - this affects backpacks, tents, sleeping bags and trekking poles.
Finally, I apologize that our Customer Service response has been inadequate in your eyes. I will make certain that someone contacts you directly in regards to your situation.

DannyMilks@DannyMilks - Hi - thank you for the response. My backpack has been stuck in Customs since last Sunday morning. No-one has contacted me to pay the VAT. The local courier - 'Yodel' - is showing: 'good, on track. Delivery estimate 17 November' I very carefully chose this drop because it would be delivered direct from Vargo by a reputable carrier, & the price would (just) not incur Import Duty; but am beginning to lose faith in the alternative delivery means you have chosen. Please get this backpack unjammed and delivered to me.
(Edit on Friday) DHL on being nagged this morning gave me a telephone number to contact/pay Customs via some 3rd party company.
Apparently I have been or shall be contacted, by snail mail, at my work address. (sighs).
Backpack will presumably get to me sometime next week. The delivery company - Yodel - now says the parcel is 'with sender'
(sighs slightly deeper) . . . . Lucky - very lucky - this ain't the camping season, and the person the pack is for will wait until Christmas anyway . . . 🎉

Would sure like to receive the one I ordered. When checking the DHL tracking I now see the problem - for some reason they are sending my backpack to Macau China instead of Missouri. They also claim the package weights 27 pounds. Lovely 1st experience for a new customer, Massdrop.

Map1@Map1 - My pack also in a 27lb box, stuck in Customs for the past four days while 'consignee contacted for payment' (consignee presumably the local delivery company). All this looks like the business model which makes these drops possible/profitable.

shoarthingYeah I haven't figured out how a sub-2 pound backpack shows up as a 27 pound package. Neither Massdrop, Vargo, or DHL has responded to my inquiries as yet.

It’s happening! Thanks to each of you, the drop was a success and we have contacted the vendor for the Vargo Ti-Arc Backpack and submitted the group’s order. They are now working hard and preparing your orders for shipment to our warehouse in New Jersey, where our team will be standing by ready to break everything down into individual orders and reship them directly to you. We currently expect to have everything out of our warehouse and on its way to you by 11/19.

The frame on the Ti-Arc is substantially more robust than the Z-packs Arc Blast. This pack frame is very sturdy, with no visible flex when I try to bend it with my body weight. I am surprised by the low stated carrying weight of this pack, and personally feel like Vargo might be conservative with that. I'll ask them. This pack would carry any large item better than most packs out there - something like a bear canister or packraft could be strapped to the bottom of the frame quite securely. In addition to lashing things to the frame, the two water bottle pockets, two side pockets, front pocket, and main pocket enable excellent organization.
