RastopherUndeniably this water bottle has an awesome, full kitted, aesthetic, It looks like a hundred bucks. And i wouldn't judge anyone for joining this drop, I would join too if I was at that level of water bottle budget.
I'm pretty sure Vargo could put out a titanium dildo and some super-ultralight fanboy would buy it for $300 because "it's lighter and stronger than my other backpacking dildo!" It doesn't matter that the utility of such a thing is zero on the trail.
OK titanium is cool but please someone please explain why this is a smarter purchase than a nalgene water bottle with same screw on lid for 7 dollars? this titanium bottle is 17 times more expensive. does nalgene fall apart when the contents freeze? or do people like to cook in their water bottles? someone enlighten me here. TIA
not quite sure which point you are referring to, bu i will take an educated guess and mention to you that a comparable nalgene bottle (38 oz.) weighs over 12 ounces, or 2.5 ounces more than this bottle. [moderated]
in this instance you are correct. i apologize to you for being so harsh. i hope that you forgive me for this, because i was wrong.
However, i must say that i dont want to dilute my apology too much, bu i feel i do owe you some further form of explanation. so if you are willing to read a bit...quite a bit actually.............
i guess what it is (generally speaking, NOT personally), is that it just seems like most of the complaints are constantly knocking Vargo for something that shouldnt even still be in the complaint conversation. YES, Vargo products are expensive (comparably), and YES, they are titanium. this information, and ALL that it entails, is old news.
therefore, reading this comment section ends up just being a constant listing of idiotic bashing of points that are already well known in our community.
i cant be the only one that has come to notice this. unfortunately, i ended up typing my frustration towards you 'raptelan', and again i apologize to you for that.
anyways.....'heyy, i get it'. i even personally agree with the complainers (to an extent), bu i am not going to hate anyone that can, and does purchase this water bottle. i am not trying to make it seem like someone might be 'crazy' to purchase this bit of kit, either. mann, if i could afford this 'luxury' item right now, i would buy one, too. sheeeeet, i think i would actually buy four. haha !!
so anyway, heres an analogy for those of you that might still be reading this diatribe:
if someone buys a new, super-fast, well-handling sports car (and its a Ferrari), they should already kno that they are going to spend at least a couple of hundreds of thousands of dollars in the process. it is already quite obvious and well known by now in our society that there may be some mentally challenged red-neck dinosaur out there that might scream out, "ahh shit-fuck, i can go that fast in my 60k Camaro....whatta rip-off!!!!!"....and yes while Billy Raymond Joe Johnson is correct, it's like, "yeah, bu that's the price of admission into the italian sports car Ferrari market". get over it !!
Staying with the automobile analogy, a Rolls Royce is also well known by now to carry a higher price tag than most other cars, but with RR you are paying for their TIME to hand make the vehicle. and i am a pretty firm believer in 'you get what you pay for'. SO TO SPEAK. (personally, i believe ALL cars are extremely overpriced, bu that's another story for another day).
n e wayz back to the subject of Vargo...
it is already well known in todays day and time what the main benefits of titanium are. it is also already common knowledge that Vargo products are around 30% more expensive than their 'somewhat' comparable counterparts.
with this being said, i feel it is fair to say that it is still pretty fucked up that Vargo jacks up their final price to us consumers due to the fact that they are one of the few manufacturers of titanium products in this section of the market.
soO...unfortunately, i will not be purchasing their $120-$150 water bottle at this time because of its price...bu let it be known that i STILL like a Rolls Royce. <---does/hope that makes sense.?.
look 'raptelan', hopefully one day there will be no more money AT ALL, and ALL that will matter is that we ALL live here on Earth, so we ALL get the very best of everything Earth has to offer. Because we are ALL Earthlings.
i digress. again 'raptelan'...i apologize to you.
and now i must get going, for time waits for no man, unless that man is Time himself.
and at this TIME i am gettin seriously loopy and delirious because of my lack of sleep. .....zzZzz....
i just wanted to take some of my TIME to start expediting the process of bitter individuals wasting our most valuable resource (TIME) on useless banter. hopefully now because of this typed entry into the annuals of the internet, i will spend a lot less TIME researching things on the aforementioned 'net from this moment forward. mann, i am tellin you , seein all these feelings all over all these websites is downright pathetic. grown men bitchin bout this n that....critiquing everyone....and then there are the grammar nazis ....arrgghH :^[
honestly 'raptelan', i really wasnt mad at you. i think i was just frustrated thou, and after re-reading what i typed, i could see how my message might have come across as a little too brash.
soO yes, this bottle is priced outta most of our ranges for our allotted water bottle budgets. and yes it doesnt suck, it fuckn swallows. lol haha
and btw YES, i still want four of them, a Ferrari, and a Rolls Royce......with a driver.
'raptelan', thank you for being patient with me. i appreciate it.
Good night.
my thoughts exactly! I'm looking for a titanium double wall so I can keep hot water, etc. for cold morning hikes.

Um, geez....that's a dodecagon lid....that's 1.2x better. Only the cool kids are using the dodecagon lids now....what, your parents can't afford the Sharper Image/Brookstone version? Maybe you're just...... Oh hell, I can't keep this up any longer....
Just cannot think of a reason to buy a $120 bottle over a $15 nalgene which weighs less and is nearly indestructible. I've had the same nalgene for 2 years, last time I replaced it I lost it while traveling. Still have yet to break a nalgene. So at this rate it'll take be almost 27 years to break/loose enough nalgenes to justify buying a $120 water bottle, and thats to assume my nalgene were to break right this moment, but I forsee getting another 2 years out of it. So assuming that it does, I'll be dead before buying a titanium bottle would ever be worth the cost. Furthermore I've never broke a nalgene I've only lost them, and this bottle doesn't seem to overcome that problem. Seems like a silly idea.
Lots of negativity! Expensive: yes, luxury item: yes, unique: yes!
I've gone through 3 nalgenes in 5 years, can't boil in them (safely), leech dioxins, ultimately pollute the planet with at least a few over the course of a lifetime of outdoor recreation. No disrespect, nalgenes are excellent, but if you plan on using this for many years and care about some less immediate benefits like longevity, ability to boil in emergencies (or when you want your coffee while the eggs fry), chemical leeching, etc, then this item has a lot of value. You just have to pay up front and reap the value over the course of many years.
You claimed the Nalgene products, of which the primary containers used, is those made of Tritan. You mentioned "nalgenes" and "leech dioxins" in the first sentence of the second paragraph, so I researched Tritan decompositions and the resulting materials/products. You specifically mentioned "nalgene" and "chemical leeching" in the very same sentence and from that I researched Tritan.
You never once mentioned other plastics, those that claim "BPA or BPS analog free", etc.
Your first set of statements are misleading and therefore contain misinformation....moreso via the later cited articles. This is analagous to saying that our bodies break down food and produces methane, and that methane can an agent of action in suffocation/asphyxiation/pneumonia in humans, 'greenhouse effect', and is even flammable, that we should ingest food of any type.
These misleading and often hyperbolic statements are what people latch onto....they love buzzwords....which you used.
I'm glad you're amenable to learning/researching....but you shouldn't make strong statements about subjects you haven't researched, or use "card stacking" when you do some research, just to show a 'good hand' to make your point.

Seems like you should do more research. This study very clearly shows EA with Tritan and other BPA-free polymers, and that's just one of the very first ones I found with a quick google. There are others.
This bottle is very delicate, I dropped it on the first use and it got severely damaged, it was beautiful and now it’s ugly. I guess the lesson is: don’t drop it.
You must not use titanium that much then. I'd also like something tougher, but titanium is expensive and sought after because of looks, ability to keep things insulated naturally, for cooking and for being lightweight. They are tough in that they won't pierce on you or leak ever, but you can bend them. Titanium in these products is all malleable I have found dude.
I do a lot of hiking/backwoods camping and while I appreciate the need for durable, lightweight gear: why wouldn't you just use a plastic Smart Water bottle or something similar? You just can't get anything lighter than a plastic water bottles, and I've never had an issue with durability. A $114 titanium water bottle just seems like ridiculously extravagant overkill. You can't even cook anything in it.
Well, I'm sure you could cook in it, but if you're spending $114 on a titanium water bottle, you most certainly already have a titanium cook pot, which I'd wager cost you significantly less.
