What is SpaceFN and why you should give it a try
The SpaceFN concept - setting up your space key as a layer switch when held - is probably one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby. Let me explain how it works. My SpaceFN article on kbd.news made some rounds recently - quite surprisingly given the age of this concept. This piece you're reading is a condensed version of the full post. If you're left with unanswered questions, you'll most likely find the info you're looking for in the original write-up. On my imaginary top list of the most useful keyboard features, tweaks and hacks, SpaceFN would deserve a podium finish for sure. But what makes it so special? In short: SpaceFN is easy to implement, easy to learn, costs nothing, can be used with any keyboard, and can improve your productivity instantly. I will list its benefits below, but can state right at this point that the SpaceFN concept, setting up your space key as a layer switch when held, is clearly one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby....

would you please be so kind, to answer or comment on the open Questions. Might help people to decide participating or not. Copy and paste from the thread, to make it easier for you:
If you charge this superior shipping costs, do you offer a tracking number by now? And the most important question for me, have you "fixed" your international shipping: Placing a proper invoice on the outside of the package.
May I ask how long would the shipping takes?
Could I sea a pic of it lit up? (with dye subs)
$36.85 for shipping? I kind of understand when it's being shipped to another continent, but that's for shipping it just across the border.
If I choose a backlit one, is it possible to turn the light off or change its intensity on this keyboard?
Cheers
That means everything ships from the US West Coast. You should be able to estimate delivery times based on that. Andrew wouldn't know how long the shipping takes because it varies by country and region. It's a silly question.
there are no silly questions, just silly answers. If i want to sell something, i would even answer so called silly questions. These questions aren't even all mine, i just collected them from the thread. My experience in shipping differs from 4 to 6 weeks, depending how fast customs work, and they even work faster if a propper invoice is attached to the package.
Have a nice day
Obviously asking questions is fine, but why ask questions you a) already know the answer to, and b) can't reasonably be answered in further detail? You're just acting entitled and being obnoxious here.
Shipping is at the bottom of the listing, these will not arrive quickly.
There's a picture of it lit up with dye subs that I took with my phone here.
Canadian shipping is just not optimally priced. It has nothing to do with us, we don't set the prices that they charge!
Pressing Fn + Arrow Key Up / Arrow Key Down allows you to adjust brightness levels (all the way down to off)
thanks a lot for your answers! Would you please provide an answer for the second of my own questions too. Will you attach a proper invoice for customs service on the outside of the package. This would make international customers very happy, saving us a lot of extra time, spend on waiting and driving to customs office.
Have a nice day
i do respect your opinion and get your point of view. First i wanted to write a long answer, but i'm not here for arguing. To make it short, my point of view is different than yours, and i ask myself, who is entitled to judge what is silly or smart. This might be different for everybody. Peace!
Shipping into Canada is expensive. I don't think any of the Canadian users would ever dispute that.
What the users are asking, is why is it that the price on shipping is so uniform - same price to Australia as it is to Canada.
Also, why is there such different shipping prices on similar products, why is this keyboard $10 more than another larger keyboard?
The only answer that I can come to is that massdrop is just profiteering on the shipping, would you care to have any input?
The code keyboard is made with a steel plate, and could hardly be called traditional cheapie rubbish, it weighs in at 1.09 kg. Are you suggesting that this weighs more than 1 kg for the board alone?
Why does the bigger keyboard cost less to ship?
1) We don't "profiteer" off international shipping. We subsidize most, if not all international shipping charges. Depending on what product we're running at the time, we have higher (or lower) subsidies for certain products from our marketing department.
2) Our international shipping rates are bulk rates through UPS Mail Innovations. We pay one rate for international shipments, regardless of the country, not based on distance. These rates are also charged to us on a per-pound (not ounce) basis. I.e. something that weights 1.1 lbs costs the same as something that weight 1.9 lbs. What that also means is that the difference of 0.12 lbs (from 1.9 to 2.02) can cause the shipping price to increase dramatically (rounded up to the nearest pound, it's the difference of paying to ship 2 vs 3 pounds).
3) Smaller keyboards sometimes weigh more than larger keyboards, for various reasons, for example, if we ship them in the same box, there might be more packing material, etc.
4) Canadian shipping (depending on the product) is often handled differently, so comparing international rates to Canadian rates isn't very effective. Canadian rates are often more expensive but, they provide faster service.
I don't have the exact weights or promotions currently on hand, but I can assure you that it's a combination of the factors above which is causing the "shipping price discrepancy" that you're noticing - not greedy profiteering.
this is the best answer/explanation i've seen yet on this page regarding this never ending topic. But i'm tired of this too, if i really want something bad, i'll pay your shipping costs, but i'll buy less.
The last months i did buy a lot of things from asia, that market is getting more and more interesting for me and the last time i paid this amount of money for shipping (around 40$) i had that keyboard delivered from Singapore to Germany in less than 48 hours :-)
I know it is still weekend, but you seem to work, might you please answer my question: Will you attach a proper invoice for customs service on the outside of the package. This would make international customers very happy, saving us a lot of extra time, spend on waiting and driving to customs office.
I've send the same question to your support too, but it seems no one likes to answer this question.
With best regards
