The wonderful world of spinning tops is a rabbit hole. Designers these days are cranking out tons of wacky and intriguing spinners made from materials that run the gamut—but ultimately, all you need is a balanced top and a good surface to spin it on to get started Read More
It's useless but I love it. I spin it from time to time, forget about it because it spins that long and then freak out "what's that sound?!" when crashes.
This Top is very heafty and well machined.
it is one of my longest spinning tops due to the weight and low genter of gravity.
Very nice desk toy.
I like to see how much I can get done before it stops spinning.
Took away one star because if you spin too hard and badly, it'll fly away and hit the edge of the glass base, which cause the brass metal to chip a little every time. Also the brass will tarnish fairly quickly. Would recommend spending more to get the stainless steel version.
I applied some WD-40 on the glass surface and it pretty much solved the wobble issue, now it always balance toward the centre by itself no matter how bad your spin is. Once you get hold of the technique (meaning the top don't fly away after you spun it), it's pretty easy to get nine minutes of spin time.
This thing spins! That might seem an obvious statement, but where I’ve never been able to get more than about 2 1/2 minutes of spin time out of any other top I get a minimum of 5 out of this one. The one time I specifically clocked it came in at over eight minutes—none too shabby.
All that said, I don’t recall if this was a higher price point as a set than the stand-alone top but the lens that came with it is nothing special. It’s a bit thinner than a comparable lens I picked up on amazon for $5, but otherwise they both work about the same.
Not sure if mine has a defect, if the glass has a defect, or if my hand has a defect, but I can only get it to spin for like 4 minutes, and it is wobbly as heck while it does it. Only sometimes do I get it to spin without any wobble, but the spin time is much lower. I don't understand. I still like it otherwise and is fun to spin, gotta train my fingers I suppose, got the ruby version.
So I’ve never had a spinning top or anything and this was an impulse buy, so I’m not too well versed in this hobby. But hey, it spins for ages and is built really well. Nice desk ornament.
