What is the focal length on this?
Also, can this be used with any type of top or only ones with certain bearing types? I ask because there was another top maker (the name is escaping me right now...but they make tops like the one in the movie inception) that made a spin station but said it could only be used with their own tops. They said other tops would ruin the surface.
It doesn't appear that this would be the case, but would like to be certain.

VerwilderdThe Vorso base is just glass and you can run any top off it. You are concerned about the base from Forever Spin. The base (I got one) has a special coating, which apparently ruins any soft bearings such as ruby or ceramics. I have not tried it, but I certainly am not interested in destroying my Lambda, Robbins or Vorso tops. The FS base is total overkill for the FS tops as those spin for a minute or two and then just fall over. Although I like gadgets, before I spend $84 on this, I just buy a glass lens for $8 from Amazon, go to our local scrap yard to find a DIY base (out of pipe or another surplus material) and save myself $73.

DesastorRubies and bearing grade ceramics aren't soft. I don't think you are using the correct word.

Ruby?
Rubies have a 9 on the Mohs hardness scale. Unless that base has diamond glass, its the other way around

VerwilderdNo, because he then says he doesn't want to ruin his Lambda or Vorso. Which are tops with hard ceramic or artificial ruby bearings. He just doesn't know what he's talking about. He's probably thinking fracture point. The rubies will crack if dropped from a height, but that's not because they are "soft."
