Awesome, I received my ViBE a few days after getting in SA Carbon? Yes please!

However I would recommend you be very careful when removing the keycaps off the modifiers. Mine were so stiff I pulled the stem out of the housing!

I already desoldered mine and repaired it (see the image with keycaps up top)but you might not have that capability.
Also good news, the PCB supports full RGBLED SMD backlighting and also split backspace! (note: plate has to be modified for split backspace, also it's missing a diode) However I test soldered an LED under escape and it didn't work. I think this needs to be enabled in firmware. I did update firmware to the latest though. Right now my only complaint is the nonstandard layout of the numberpad with numlock on. All of those keys are already available on the tenkey, who do you have to shuffle them around? I get that some people like the inverted T arrows instead of the + arrows on the tenkey but some of us are used to such things (I have had lightsaver since V1 came out). Oh well, maybe they will update the firmware again and it will make it better. Latest firmware with user manual is here http://www.vortexgear.tw/vortex3.asp I'm hoping they release a RGBLED firmware for it, so I can finish swapping switches and modding the plate. too much to ask I think though.

dorkvaderI wish they would release their engineering sample which does have RGB lighting.

dorkvaderYou may have already answered this as part of your post but would it be possible to de-solder the board if I say wanted to swap out the cherry switches with Zealio switches?

tekkahYes, it would take about 30 minutes for someone experienced to desolder the switches, remove them from the plate, then solder in new ones and test it. I am not taking on new projects until the summer

blakstealthI just want the firmware they put on it. The rest I can easily do myself.

JamesLeeI'm not sure why, but I have had issues with clears in the past. Signature Plastics has multiple molds for their DSA keycaps that were used in the initial ergoDOX GB (which I helped organize before we moved it to Massdrop). You could recognize one of them that was tighter than the others. We only had a few people that I know of with this sort of issue on clears and very few on other switches. I suspect the manufacturer has their stem being a little tight on the modifier-shaped mold. Retooling that wouldn't be *too* difficult but I doubt it'll happen. As far as I know, cherry Whites (which started to become available when 7bit hosted a huge switch GB on Geekhack) have the same stems as greens (and blues) so they do not have this problem as much as clears do. The vintage clears I replaced them with (identifiable as having the "older" 2 (of at least 3) cherry logos on top I have had no issues with. I'm not sure if the tooling changed during production, but at the rate they create stems, Cherry (now ZF) would go through tools pretty quick (with their tolerances, I bet its less than 500,000 moldings).
