KrisBaliI don't own one, just admire them (I have a race3), but I personally rarely use Excel or spread sheets. I write code in Vim mostly, so the numpad is superfluous most of the time. I like the idea of having nav and numpad available when I do want them. Like everything with keyboards, it's personal preference.
KrisBaliI have this layout on a laptop but at my actual desk at work I have a ducky full sized layout. I use the number pad frequently so I need it as a permanent solution. I want a smaller layout for my home office but one that I can still use excel which is why I am leaning toward this because TKL is useless for me. The thing that I want to make sure is that I can use the Fn key to have another layer on the numpad as the arrow and nav buttons.
heldpizzaI just did it on my race 3 to check (the vibe and race both tell you to look at the poker manual). It works, and now I have Vim arrows with the fn key depressed.
The caveat is that the default layer cannot be programmed. So if you want this functionality you have to select another layer, and then there is an LED under the spacebar that is on all the time. Of course you could just switch to that layer while editing your Excel stuff, and then back to default if the led bugs you.
heldpizzaThere's user manuals at www.vortexgear.tw on the support page. Says 3 layer customization. Also looks like fn+ijkl are arrows on the default layer.
lectricleopardso I’ve got a ViBE and the LEDs under the spacebar are fairly dim, plus if your a touch typist and looking at the screen then you’re never going to see it anyway.
KrisBaliIt's pressing numlock each time vs. not having a numpad at all on a TKL.
If it gets annoying you could just get a separate numpad and use the Vibe as a TKL with extra macro keys.
Jino74Cool board. Way out of my price range though. I don't like how they switched the "0" with the "." on the number pad either. That would totally mess me up.
