They come in a pretty large wooden box, I guess that's the main reason.

WHAT!? these are most certainly FAKE! I own another pair of PK3's that I bought years ago from HeadDirector on ebay (they are selling fakes now) and they have a huge soundstage sparkling highs and deep smooth lows. these FAKES have none of that.

No I was incorrect they are "real" but Yuin has changed the quality of their headphones. They no longer make the original PK3's that I bought years ago. I bought another pair through Headdirector on ebay and got the same poor sounding buds. no amount of breakin has changed the sound of either. I'm not sure if that was sarcasm but their are TONS of fake PK3's on ebay.

TheBlueBulkNo, I wasn't being sarcastic. That was the consensus view of head-fi.org a couple years ago, Yuin isn't a brand or type of product being knocked off. Too little payoff for the trouble.

I really like my Pk3s but they really need tension relief on fore the wires.
I would caution others to take note as I am on my 4th pair of these and they simply fail either at the Y-split or the connection to the earbud every time. I like them but they are basically disposable and not priced like they are. I'm not very rough on them but they keep failing. :(

Jim_I'd argue that they are priced to be disposable. not a good thing, but the worst part is that this carries over to their more expensive models that shouldnt be disposable (ie PK1) i guess you could always get them recabled

I had a pair of these a couple of years ago. Sound was great, quality was poor - were trash within 3 months (by far the quickest turn-out of any earbud owned yet). So unless there have been significant manufacturing improvements since 2010, I would be *extremely* gentle handling these. Given the sound, I still plan on getting the more expensive Yuins....

Ever since the apple 1st earphone, I have moved to in-ear only till now. How is this type better than in ear? My experience with this type from the past is that it doesnt stick well in ear and not comfortable to use too. Btw I'm not an audiophile, just someone that enjoys good music :)

It isn't actually. Matter of preferences. Those are preferred over in-ears mainly for 2 reasons: less sound isolation and comfort. As for comfort - some people just can't use good amount of IEMs because of their ear canal features and\or general level of discomfort.

I've been using the PK3 for a few years now, and just a few weeks ago, got in on the PK2 MassDrop. In my opinion, while the PK3 are amazing, if you can hold out for another round of the PK2, for just a few dollars more, it is a much better deal. Those were about $40 off normal price, while these are only around $10 less.
Also, based on my listening preferences, I do find the PK2 to be a tad superior.

I use these everyday from the last time they dropped. Punchy bass and clear mids. They sound better than any ear buds I've had before. They seem pretty durable. I've been using them for a month with a Galaxy S4. My only complaints:
Holes in the buds can get dirt stuck in them and there's no way to get it out.
The cord is nice, but I'd like to see some tangle free flat cables like all the good ear buds have.

lefthandedspatulaHave you tried cleaning them out with a normal toothpick? I don't have them, so this might be a dumb question, but it seems like that would work.

Hey guys,
Just a quick update on the status of the drop.
We were just informed that our order will be ready for shipment from China towards the end of the week. It typically takes between 4 to 6 business days of transit time for the shipment to arrive our warehouse. At which point, we should be able to have them out to each participating members within 24 hours.
So far everything is moving nicely along accordingly. Once the order is shipped out to us, we will start be able to predict the estimated shipping time much more accurately. And we will report back once that happens.

The sound is very good, however fair warning:<br /><br />I've owned 3 pairs of these, and every single within ~6-12 months the left ear piece just gives out, due to poor connection where the 3.5mm termination meets the cable.<br /><br />I don't know if the build quality has changed, but I do think it's important to consider this before buying.<br /><br />That being said, I picked up a pair anyways, just have to be careful with them.

moonfirespamI picked them up originally from Amazon, none of them were replacements (all new purchases).<br /><br />Again, I hesitate to say don't buy it, since the sound is excellent for being ear buds, but make a decision based on your judgement.
