I used my cup twice and the clip stopped holding the sweep in place which made my cup a pain to use. I went to use it again today only to find that the clip had broken off completely now. I am severely disappointed in this product.
Oh goody--the plastic rod that keeps the cork in place just snapped in two. I was removing the cork, which wasn't in very tight, and the retaining rod snapped like a tiny twig. I suppose it'll be impossible to get a replacement piece. :(
AyuzerThe cool thing is-- once the idiotic cork retainer breaks, it becomes a dribble cup as tea runs out one or both of the holes when you tilt the cup to drink.
Taking a close look at the Zita this morning--I'm shocked that the tolerances are so bad. The sweeping partition leaves a significant gap between the edge and inner cup surface. This is just sloppy design and manufacturing. This should have been corrected with some injection mold modifications, but someone was trying to save a few bucks.
Edit: I tried another full leaf tea with less debris and the Zita works a little better. This is ok for full leaf teas that don't get too bitter with a long steep.
Mine has no problem sealing, but they could definitely make some improvements. The tea control unit should be gasketed, because the tea does keep brewing and it doesn't seal out small tea debris. I also expected to be able to fill the upper cup with some tea to let it cool before drinking, but it doesn't really work that way. They should also remove the asinine "do yourself a flavor " text from the cup. Still, I brewed myself a nice cup of tea , the Zita worked ok, and I'll continue to use it.
BarryI was also hoping to be able to do that with the cup on top as well. Guy in the video makes a big deal about "zipping" your tea and the product materials also talk about it. If the hole poured the opposite direction it might work but as it is it's just like drinking from any other travel mug.
Received mine today. Bottom line: great concept and visually awesome product that falls short. Glad I didn't pay retail.
If you're using really large leaf tea you'll be OK, but most that I use aren't and a good bit went right past the Tea Control Kit. Also, there isn't a real seal between the Tea Control Unit and the mug so the entire mug is still getting brewed. That was a big selling point of this mug: "The user can trap the leaves by simply screwing the lid on the tumbler, thereby controlling the brewing of the tea and keeping its taste uncompromised. " The guy in video even says "corner the tea leaves and shut down the brewing process."
Favorite line of the instructions: "The product is not intended to be spill-proof or leak-proof and is not guaranteed against minor leakage."
No kidding, with the Corkmec inserted you can literally pour the tea out of the mug because it comes up through the threads of the lid and right past the seal. And I do have the lid screwed down as tight as I can get it.
In no way do I have an issue with Massdrop with this product, it seems that the manufacturer is being at least a bit misleading with everyone about its capabilities.
andyIt's sealing if I really crank down on it now, otherwise it at least drips with the Corkmec inserted. This is with hot liquid in it. It seems when cool liquid is in it the seal is more forgiving.
I also broke the plastic rod putting the cork in when I got it but didn't mention it because I thought maybe I hulked out on it or something.
Ignoring anything else potentially wrong with it, the tolerances of the Tea Control Kit are really terrible and that is supposed to be this thing's claim to fame. I filled it up again today and the bottom of the kit is at least a few mm off the bottom of the inner wall of the mug. With a full mass of saturated tea leaves it's less likely that they're going to escape under there but that gap and the sides of the kit not sealing against the wall as well cause the whole mug to continue to be brewed. It really needs a gasket or the whole leading edge to be made of silicone with no gap.
If I were you guys I'd ping Finum and ask them why their mug doesn't perform like it's supposed to. I surely wouldn't do a drop of this product again until they at least fix the Tea Control Kit. It's pretty much false advertising on their part for the product materials and the guy hocking the product in a video for them saying that they mug will shut down brewing when the way it's currently designed it can't do that.
