Product Description
Created by famous Italian designer and architect Matteo Thun, these double-walled glasses are designed to keep your beverages at the optimal temperature. Made from borosilicate glass, they’re constructed of multiple layers, creating added heat and cold retention Read More
These glasses my annoy your guests:
• the dual wall cuts down on the amount of alcohol a glass of the same outside diameter would normally hold (makes your guests think you're stiffing them).
• if your drink requires that much insulation to remain cold, you're not drinking it fast enough (your guests might think you expect them to baby their drink, rather than quickly knocking it back and asking for another).
Borosilicate sometimes happens to be less fragile, but is not engineered to be any stronger than standard glassware.
Due to its increased thermal shock resistance, borosilicate glass is used for laboratory glass like beakers and test tubes as well as for cookware in your kitchen. It can withstand uneven heat from a Bunsen burner or be taken out of the oven and put on the stove top without breaking from thermal shock.
It is also used in perfume bottle applications due to its chemical durability. The phase separation of its microstructure allows for higher resistance to acidic degradation.
Can I get either 1 beer glass and 1 red wine glass or one each of the beer, red & white wine glasses? I live alone and have no more than 3 people at a time visiting?
Re: borosilicate glass. We own several double-walled from Bodum and other reputable brands. Honestly they're nothing special and the glass is considerably brittle (at least compared to other types of glass), so you have to be a bit careful to knock them or make sure they're not jumbling inside the dishwasher.
My wife got these tumblers as a gift. Drinking fine Irish whiskey neat we decided the tumblers were not for us. I think due to the whiskey does not warm up on your hand like a regular tumbler does. But if you want your liquids to stay hot or cold and not be affected by your body or outside heat they are probably great. Oh, the lip of the glass has to be pretty wide by design so it is kind of like drinking from a coffee cup.
