I love this watch, but man that band would be gone in a heartbeat. Glossy leather of any variety just feels cheap to me, regardless of its quality. I've actually been looking to trade my Alpina AL535AB5AR26 for this watch, or an Alpina AL-860S4H6 which is currently my dream watch, right up there with a Tudor North Flag.

KethI'm not normally a big fan of patent leather straps either, but I'm finding this one appropriate for the dressy nature of the watch. If you get this and dislike the strap after all, I think it's versatile enough for a bunch of other straps. The other strap I put on it is a black Hirsch faux crocodile strap.
The Alpina AL535AB5AR26 looks sweet, that split circle seconds subdial is pretty uncommon. Reminds me of the very cool GMT register on the Citizen Nighthawk.

Daisy_CutterI'm a big guy, with a big wrist, but that 47mm beast is a bit much even for me! The small second hand is what drew me to it, I love that it's a 50/50 design.

Keth43mm is about the max I'll go to. 46 is beastly!
If you're considering the Presage seriously, bear in mind it's 40.5mm, which would be quite a downsize.

Daisy_CutterI'm also looking at an Oris Aquis. My daily driver is an old Orient Mako.

Daisy_CutterIf I were going to do an Oris diver, I would choose the 65 over the Aquis for the ability to change straps.

Daisy_CutterSomething about the curve of the crystal bothers me. I really want to avoid the dot style markers if I get a diver, so my other options were an Alpina Seastrong, or the Edox Grand Ocean.

Daisy_CutterSharp, very sharp. Low VBH and curved saphire...will have to see some pictures or one in person first, that curved sapphire bugs the hell out of me some times. The markers look like the lum is recessed, which is a pretty cool look, love the look of the SPB051J1 . Would be hard to decide between that and a Mako USA 2 for a new daily driver.

WatchDoctorMy only reservation is the crown. My current Alpina has the same one, it's a rubber wrap and a total pain to keep clean if you wear it.

KethHuh! Didn't think about that. Thanks for the information as I have been eyeing the Seastrong for quite some time.

WatchDoctorI can tell you that the fit and finish on my Alpina are amazing. A lot of divers are adding rubber accents to the crown for better grip with wet fingers, if you look at the higher end Orient divers, M-Force, they all have them as well.

KethThat Oris is pretty unique!
Throwing another one into the mix that seems like it would meet your specs: http://www.timefactors.com/precistaprs3.htm

For the uninitiated, Precista is basically a guy in the UK who started out by making watches based on old military spec drawings. He has his own original designs too, though the overall aesthetic still leans toward the vintage. I believe this particular diver is based on a British Ministry of Defense spec from the '70s.
Precista watches seem to enjoy quite a cult following on the internet, and the fit and finish on them seems universally well-regarded. I have a couple of their watches, and can personally attest to that. If you want something solid that nobody else has, this is a good bet.

Daisy_CutterIt's a pretty sweet looking watch, my only critique would be that it seems to be a printed face, which feels kind of boring for the price.
