What is SpaceFN and why you should give it a try
The SpaceFN concept - setting up your space key as a layer switch when held - is probably one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby. Let me explain how it works. My SpaceFN article on kbd.news made some rounds recently - quite surprisingly given the age of this concept. This piece you're reading is a condensed version of the full post. If you're left with unanswered questions, you'll most likely find the info you're looking for in the original write-up. On my imaginary top list of the most useful keyboard features, tweaks and hacks, SpaceFN would deserve a podium finish for sure. But what makes it so special? If you can't read the speccy in the picture: 5820k @ 4.2GHz 24GB DDR4 3200MHz (3x8GB in triple channel; one DIMM needs to be replaced) GTX 960 (not really a gamer) 2TB HDD external 3x4TB HDD internal 5TB HDD internal 500GB SATA SSD 250GB NVMe M.2 SSD
Oh and the monitors are Asus PB258Q 25" 2560x1440p IPS 60hz
But really, I keep a digital copy of all of the blurays I buy so I can stream them to any device connected to my local network. Or I can VPN into my network from any decent wifi connected device in the world.
It looks great, but those cables are rustling my jimmies
Also, I know the cabling situation isn't great, but I just can't be bothered to spend the ~$75 buying all new cables that are long enough to go where I need them to go AND have room to hide them properly.
It will happen eventually, but it doesn't bother me in the slightest, and I find it funny how many people comment on the wires as if they're some massive issue. Makes me lol.
