KWZI are hands-down the best iron-gall inks around. The colors are beautiful, the maintenance minimal. They are a delight to write with, so smooth on the paper .... and watching the color change as IG oxidizes is endlessly entertaining. After a year of sun exposure in my window, the color does fade, leaving only the dark iron-gall component, which will last as long as the paper does.
For a pigment-style ink, the De Atramentis Document inks are remarkable. They have not faded or changed color in my testing—sun and water. And, they write smoothly and clean up easily, without the troubles that plague many of the Noodler's permanent inks. I have replaced most of my Noodler's Eternals with the DA Document inks, as they are superior product.
Zero problems with either KWZI or DA Document inks. Haven't had any staining on my pens—though I haven't tried all the colors for either line. Certain ones might cause trouble, but I've had far more staining issues from Diamine and Noodler's inks.
I've used both these inks in a Pilot G78 with a fine nib, which is about twice as thin as a Lamy EF. They work great!
They are iron gall, but such a dilute version that they actually do fade very much quite fast under exposure to light or time. In their case, the iron gall aspect is more of a novelty about the color change as the ink dries rather than true permanence. They certainly don't meet the official ISO standards for permanence like the "registrar's" inks do--it's why those inks are approved for use by registrars.
