$350 and $500 are "mid-priced" knives ?!? WTF?

That's the MSRP, so the Massdrop price would be lower than that. And for some collectors, that would be at the high end of the scale of cost for a mid level knife.

Yeah, it's all subjective. And often sliding over time. The first branded knife I bought was a $19+change Kershaw, and I spent more time debating that purchase, and if it was worth the money, than I spent on one for $495 a couple weeks agoq. Now, that's not to say I just toss cash like that around like it's nothing, but when I saw the new run of Strider SMFs were using CPM 20CV blade steel for the first time ever, and had front scales made of aluminum for the first time ever, vs G10; and when I saw this model had flamed stripes on the titanium AND a tiger-striped blade, I said, hey, that's not a bad deal COMPARED TO SIMILAR MODELS' prices in the past. But yeah, that's basically $500 for a production knife, and I'd call that the very top end of my "mid" range. Beyond that we're into customs and for me, about another $500 to reach my absolute, cant go higher even if I want to, maximum. But...hmmm...Correct me if I'm wrong, but I didnt see anything on that list for $500. Few for $350, actually. Seemed like more down around the $175 to $260 range. I know the Spyderco prices best, and the Rubicon cracks $300--i think that was on the list--and the Kizer isn't more than $225 or $250...so maybe it's more "lower mid-range". But hey, it's all relative and subjective.
Do you guys really think Massdrop is going to ship UTX 70's all over the country and commit a bunch of felonies? Cmon, lets vote for something that's realistic

Okay, you got me. Where is the UTX? Maybe they took it off the list.

Yeah, that was my thought about that poll too, to say nothing of the task of convincing Microtech to partner with MD.
I Iive in a wild west state that lets you carry any knife, any time, any way you please, and even still when I sent one of my Microtechs back to the factory for a tune-up it couldnt be mailed back to me, but instead had to be sent to the store from which it was purchased. I didnt realize it until doing some recent reading, but federal law prohibits sending by mail OTFs to anywhere in the US unless the receipiant is a member of the military or law enforcement...or has only one arm. No joke. People missing an arm may legally receive by mail OTF knives with blades no > 3.5". I purchased all my OTFs in-person so the issue had never come up for me.
A silly law that improves public safety not one iaota, but all "switchblades" still have a certain...unseemly, criminal connotation to many people (probably those who grew up watching Biff get stabbed by Natalie Wood's Puerto Rican cousin after he lost the big dance contest, or something like that; my parents made me watch that show). And OTFs are the most "criminal" of all. Ive been asked many times, "now whut do yuh need a knife like THAT fer?"whilst carrying a Microtech. The correct answer to such inquires is: "in case the Jets/Sharks show up. I'm a terrible dancer." Anyway, I doubt we'll be seeing an "Automatic Knife Owners Rights" advocacy group any time soon.
