I like the ideas on the Traveler and the Messenger covers. I usually find my Midori goods through Pencils.jp and the folks there send to North America promptly and inexpensively. [1]: http://www.pencils.jp/product-list/5 The closure on the Traveler looks interesting. I generally like the closure on the Messenger which echoes the A4 cover I procured from Strideridge several years ago. Recently, I learned of another artisan closer to me: Popov Leather. So, I'd recommend considering what artisans are close to you. Since 2016, it looks like even Strideridge has some Messenger style designs. Artisans can be quite creative and responsive. Plus, you can choose from quite an array of tanning and thread colours.

Unfortunately they don't export out of Japan to individual sellers, but you can find some on Amazon for like $40. They were going for a modular/customizable take on this, so you can buy different inserts to put into the thing. There's also tons of stuff on Etsy you can buy (like additional inserts, accessories, etc.) for the notebook. They have it listed as 'Fauxdoris', MTN, or Traveler's Notebook.
