Love me the SL1. DSLR functionality in a size and weight that's practically in point-and-shoot territory. I often leave my 6D/5DSR at home and take out the SL1 w/ the 24mm 2.8 pancake lens as a super compact/lightweight power package. If you're shopping for a "low end" DSLR, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this one for two reasons:
1) A smaller/lighter camera is more likely to be carried with you instead of left at home
2) It's a great camera and may serve you perfectly well for many years
3) If you get serious into photography and upgrade to a full-frame or pro level body, the SL1 can still be a handy backup or lightweight travel camera where a mid-range camera might be replaced entirely. That is, it's different enough that it still serves a purpose that a midrange body may not.
Also, comes in white. Which I think looks really cool and toy-like.
