Greed and lust for perfection. That was what compelled me to splurge out on the FiiO X5 3rd Gen, when the Onkyo DP-X1 I bought for my birthday was perfectly OK. So, I did a detailed comparison and whilst the hardware specs of the FiiO are very, very attractive, in real terms, the Onkyo beats it pants down. Firstly, if you make the mistake of attempting to play DSD256, the machine simply crashes. On every Android device I purchase, I must have my Apex Launcher running. Not so on the FiiO. Just crashes! Finally, (and I could go into greater depth), the FiiO doesn't support MQA files nor does it yet support external DAC... It simply crashes!

I preferred the Fiio X5iii sound over my DPX1A, but other issues made me return the Fiio. Also, I realised that i can pair the DPX1A with the Fiio Q5 (2x AK4490) when it is released and have a better experience.

Erm! You said DP-X1A should be added. So I commented that the only difference with the DP-X1 is twice the internal RAM.

DPX1 and DPX1A both have 2GB of ram, but other differences.

Too late for me as I've already ordered my DP-X1, but it (and its Pioneer sibling) are surprisingly the only players that meet my requirements: Must-have: 1) At least 400GB capacity: I want to keep my entire music collection in the player, no more scrimping and playing tetris to get the files to fit (or is it musical chairs?) 2) High quality DAC and headphone amplifier section 3) Support for searching music by composer (I listen mostly to classical music) 4) Mac compatibility for loading files 5) Able to power a Sennheiser HD800 6) Support for ALAC up to 24/192 7) Shuffle by Album, not by Song (something where the iPhone inexplicably regressed from the iPod Classic)
Nice to have: 7) Compatibility with my BMW's infotainment system, e.g. steering wheel controls 8) Support for gapless playback 9) Touch screen UI 10) Support for DSF (SACD rips in native DSD) 11) 1/4" TRS socket

Go for it mate! I love the device. No regrets. Except the darn battery! But every problem has a solution.

I have the Onkyo DP-X1 and it is fantastic. This should probably wait for the international release of it, though -- it's only available in Japan right now.
