Lets concentrate on ultralight tents. I just got Salida 2 today, and it is definitely not an ultra light tent in over 4lb category. Is there a way to know how much each of those UL tents will be in advance?
How did the Ultamid and Solong 6 make the "Freestanding" category? No, really. Both GREAT tents, but by no means freestanding! Pull up the stakes and see what happens.
Have people missed that this is the 'ultralite' community? Perhaps I'm missing something but why the suggestions weighing over two kilograms (4 lbs 6oz for those clinging to British Imperial measure :-)

That's exactly the bag I'm talking about. I mentioned something on the discussion for that bag, saying it would be a good car camping bag. I just got my Massdrops 20F UL quilt though(surprisingly earlier than I expected), and I'm thoroughly impressed. I'd like to see you guys bring that back again, and I'm always welcome to EE bags. It would be really nice to see water-proof/resistant down in the Massdrops quilt. I'll be testing it this weekend and leaving some feedback. But from what I can tell so far is that its rock solid and very warm. I'll be putting it through the ringer on an overnight snowshoeing trip camping near the treeline.
On that note, I'd really like to see a massdrops brand UL shelter or bivvy.
I've used the fly creek for three years (and over four hundred miles) and it has served me well but it is NOT free standing. The Nemo is a similarly not free standing. Mountain Hardware mega UL 2 is the only truly freestanding 2 lb. two person tent mass market tent. I'm switching for this upcoming seasons
I just played with the Fly Creek at the outdoor retailer expo and the thing is flimsy. I would not want to be caught in a storm in there. I think the Copper Spur is worth the added weight.

Agreed. The spur is a much better choice.

I disagree. It really depends on how you guy it out. I have the slater UL2, which is a larger version of the fly creek without the mesh upper(keeps sand out in the desert). I've used it at base camps above treeline, camped near treeline, and it withstood up to 80mph gusts of wind. Flimsy is not how I would describe this tent, but most of its stability comes from the guylines NOT the tent poles. Comparing the fly creek platinum UL2 to the copper spur UL1 it's half the weight. Copper spur is a much more classic tent it relies primarily on tent poles. Honestly I feel like I could guyout my slater UL2 to withstand worse weather than a copper spur UL1.
Mirage 2P: 1.1kg, completely free-standing, spacious, long (for tall folks), 2 side doors and 2 vestibules. Very storm-worthy and super easy set up.
side entry is a lot better than front entry, 1,000 miles PCT experience.
