What about the D-Lux Type 109, it is based on the high-tech Panny Chinese marvel, yet is made in Japan, and slightly heavier and solid by some accounts. Has some great reviews.
Wow, Massdrop has impeccable taste!
X Vario would be a good everyday carry if you aren't bothered by the limiting aperture and the somewhat bulky lens.
Though the D-Lux might be aesthetically more pleasing than their half-breed counterparts, I wouldn't fork out that much cash for it.
Hey everyone, I am glad that there is considerable interest in this poll! I've been talking with Leica, and I will have to remove some of the cameras that are definitely not going to be listed on Massdrop, but I will be showing them this poll later today.
I agree with PandaSPUR I can definitely recommend pretty much any Leica camera, but you have to (a)accept the functionality tradeoffs (no autofocus) for the outstanding M-series, and (c) except for the M series, be prepared to pay more for about the same functionality as other high quality brands.
Photo quality is much more subjective, as any Leica aficionado will attest, but for example, the newest, and perhaps one of the most beautiful Leicas, the T-type, you are mostly paying for the logo and the beauty; the specs are not outstanding, and the lens, while designed by Leica, is not made by Leica, and unlike the outstanding M lenses, it is software corrected for the same design-tradeoff chromatic and other distortions all the other cameras have with similar lenses.
Leica X Vario ... your page referred me to the Amazon page, but that is an overpriced place to get cameras! Amazon is asking $2,430, but B&H Photo, one of the premier photo stores in the world, has it for $2,099!! Be careful whom you partner with on this one, or nobody will have any meaningful savings!!

I figured they were made by Panasonic since the Panasonic cameras use Leica optics!
Half breeds.... I really like how these are just swagged up panasonic cameras that still cost an arm and a leg compared to their not so distant economical panny counterparts...
For example: DLUX 6 = Panasonic LX7

to be fair, i think thats the only one that is a simple rebranded Panasonic Lumix.
And I dont think anyone who frequents Massdrop will afford high end leica cameras.. lol

Quite possibly, but I have a good feeling it's not entirely of Leica's own creation considering they're pretty comfortable working with panasonic. They've had some help for sure. Only time will tell if there might be a new panasonic affordable twin of the x vario.
Anyhow, besides aesthetics and history, all modern leica cameras, bring very little to the table as far as value goes. If Macklemore's thrift shop song included cameras, he would be singing all about this brand swindling and pimping. More than anything, a leica camera is more of a functional fashion accessory nowadays.
The same goes for Hasselblad and Sony, which we might just see here on MD if they manage to sell Leicas to people with deep deep deep pockets and empty heads.
~~~If anything MD should sell the nikon df. Now that's something worth your hard earned money. Best part is even though you can use legacy nikkor/ nikon F lenses with most* modern nikon bodies, this one looks the part as well.
