My god, please please please get these on here! I need all the sales as I can get, as a small robot maker beside my job. This would help me get some 3D printed parts fast and easily.
I am personally against MakerBot. To me, they are very overpriced. I can build a printer with better print quality for around $500. The only thing mine wouldn't have is a sleek look. For an extra hundred bucks, I could rig a fancy self contained touch screen interface. IMO, it is way better to buy a 3D printer kit and have the fun of DIY.
Very true, the price is crazy. One way to compare this is with luxury cars. Sure you could buy a Veyron for $2.4 million and get one of the fastest cars in the world to drive to the grocery store in, but even the classic Lamborghini won't be near that much, or you could build a car yourself, and it could be just as good. You could add another poll to the site with other printers, I'd sure be interested in that too!
To be honest, patents take rather along time to go through, so at the time these patents were filed the desktop 3d printer industry hardly existed. Also, Makerbot makes some of the best quality and smartest 3d printers out there, so if we can all work together to lower the price, it would be well worth it.
