Hi Everyone,
Sadly, after much analysis, we've come to the conclusion that Ramen isn't a viable item to Massdrop right now. Ramen weighs quite a bit (in bulk) and it's quite cheap already so the requisite shipping charges make it impossible for us to get you meaningful price drops.
Thanks for your votes, we'll keep doing our best to source the products you want!
buying ramen at Hmart website (a Korean supermarket in US) will be much cheaper than Amazon
I got a huge pack of the spicy shin ramyun about once a month in college from the local Asian grocer. The stuff is amazing.
Even though I have more time to cook now, I'd still love to have some around. It makes the perfect "sick" food or "I forgot to go shopping" food. It doesn't have to be horrible for you, being Ramen. Add fresh or frozen vegetables and stir in an egg for protein and you have a fairly balanced meal.
Hi Steve, how are things going? Did you ever hear back from suppliers?
Just an update: We've contacted several of the companies in this poll and have pricing for many of the products. We still need to finalize the shipping and logistics costs to figure out if, after everything, the price will still be worth it. Will post another update here once we have the final info.

Hey Steve, Or any other MD'er, it has been a few months since this was posted, any luck finding something or is this a drop we are better off moving on from?
Thanks.
I didn't even realize that I had posted here already, haha. Whoops.
I'd hope for something vegetarian.
Hahaha. Does ramen really need to be discounted even more?

Ah well when you buy them individually they are 79 cents a bag (or more). I'm hoping to buy them in bulk in entire boxes, so it's not exactly discounted, just cheaper buying in giant bulks? XD Or that's what I'm thinking this is.
Had tons of this when I was in Taiwan. By far my favorite instant noodle. It'd be awesome if we can group buy this.
Nongshim looks like they have a commanding lead in this poll. We're reaching out to wholesale distributors and prices are looking pretty competitive. Shipping 6 pounds (per box) is going to be pricey, but we're hoping to have a Massdrop up for this by the end of the week!

Nongshim is the best! I haven't had ramen in forever. As nelson stated, some of the best ramen I've had was in HK.
Another epic idea for a buy, time to stock up.
r/ramen would be all over this.

That's pretty good, but I think this one's better:
The problem with this is that IIRC I can get the Sapporo Ichiban and the regular Nongshim at the Asian grocery store close to $1.xx/bag, if not individual than in the bulk backage. Can someone please tell me what is the difference with Nongshim black vs the regular? Something premium that would be worth every penny is Ajisen ramen. Dunno if it is available in the United States at all. I also had some pretty awesome ramen from the Tokyo airport that I paid $10 for a box with 3 servings inside. The characteristic of the super awesome ones seems to be that the noodles are totally SOFT and are only supposed to be cooked for 60 seconds max. Then you discard the water that the noodles were cooked in and use fresh boiling water to mix the concentrated soup liquid into. I think the Ajisens have to be refrigerated if they won't be consumed in 5 weeks or less.

Thanks @Justin Just read through a couple ramen reviews for this, sounds amazing! We need to stockpile a ton of these in our office.
@Justin "hydrolysis thing" sounds delicious!
I'm an artist will seriously hectic schedules. It'd be nice to just pop these into a pot of boiling water and have something good to eat. This is a great idea and I'd totally buy these in bulk as well if they became cheaper.
Seems like shipping those boxes would be a pain in the ass though (which would add to the price)

@Sergio i think shipping prices are typically based on weight, and not size. these boxes may be big but i don't think they're that heavy. that being said, you do raise an excellent point, are there any _really_ premium ramens ($3-$5 a pack) you know of that might make it worth it?

The size isn't an issue until you reach certain limit, so it all depends on how large the boxes are and which mail carrier is used. If the deal is worth it, I'd join it though.
