TheGoatEaterThere are durable sheathing for protecting against damage. I have to agree that detachable cables are good though, because it is only a matter of time and use before cables fail, and because it would make balancing headphones easier. http://www.techflex.com/land_genpurp.asp
TheGoatEaterIf you really want this, modding it to make it detachable is not a problem :)

TheGoatEaterYou can mod them. I will probably do a how-to mod these on head-fi (there is still no thread for modding them or the K550 on the site) as soon as I receive the audio jack. Seems fairly easy too.
I'm assuming that audio jack mod still possible after the cable breaks? I would rather not try anything risky on a good set of headphones.

ValseanI'm assuming that yes. The cable is not likely to break inside as you've got a plastic mount which secure it (

), so it will be the exposed cable who will break first and you will still be able to do the mod. And even if it's the cable inside inside that broke, you would still be able to do the mod, it's just that it may be slighty more difficult (as you may need to use new cables).
