Adding/Including Memories
I lost my dad last year (2023) and have been finding ways to include keepsakes/memories in my workstation. I've dabbled here and there with doing small woodworking projects and attempted a wrist rest from a piece of oak I picked up with him from my great uncles wood shop. I milled it to fit a 60% keyboard as I hadn't decided what keyboard I would be using it on and thought that's where most of my wrist would be in contact even typing on a full keyboard. I gave it a torched/burn appearance as I really was lost in what to do. I found an old shell casing from going hunting with my dad in my hunting pack and decided to imbed it into the end of the wrist rest so it would just have a little difference and a small story behind it as well. I have other things around my workstation from family and friends, but it just feels a little more special having worked on it and adding something small that has a memory for me to it. Let me preface by saying I'm coming from a garbage $150ish Broyhill off-the-shelf desk chair.
#1 I'm not a heavy guy at 165lb but holy shit. When I set the chair height I can jump in this thing and it doesn't deflect down at all. #2 It's not a la-z-boy but honestly it's comfortable - comfortable like, well, a racing seat. If you're strictly looking for relaxed comfort, okay maybe this isn't for you. If you want something 'utilitarian-comfortable', this can be adjusted perfectly for your preferred gaming style and is quite comfortable for multi-hour gaming sessions. #4 The packaging/pre-assembly is seriously on-point. It seems minor but the smart packaging leaves you the smallest and easiest amount of assembly that I think would be reasonably possible. Put the backrest on, snap the wheels in, drop the chair on the base, and put a couple plastic covers on.
So yeah, cons.. um.. #1 It's actually a little tippy frontwards. I'm guessing the weight balance is this way on purpose so that you can literally lay all the way back and lean back and it doesn't tip backwards. I mean, there's really no reason to be leaning towards the front very much. #2 Sure, I could see some higher quality on some of the parts, but c'mon this is less than twice the price of some garbage office chair from Staples, and this thing is going to last much longer. #3 I'm a pretty small guy at 5'9" 165lb and I love the fit of the chair. You could definitely go much taller, but I will admit that I could see the seat bolsters becoming uncomfortable for a large person. YMMV but it's worth noting.
