Seems every generation falls for its own version of advertising BS. Take a little walk down "running shoe" memory lane: "In 1933, canvas footwear pioneer B.F. Goodrich patented the "Posture Foundation" insole, and began adding the new technology to its shoes. B.F. Goodrich shoes with Posture Foundation became known simply as "P-F" in 1937. In 1935, Canadian badminton player, Jack Purcell designed a low, white-bleached badminton shoe made of canvas-and-rubber for the B.F. Goodrich. By 1944, PF Flyers released their first kids collection of shoes, creating the slogan, "Run Faster, Jump Higher".[1]Fashion trends in the 1940s and 1950s saw PF Flyers expand from gyms and ball fields to become fashionable active footwear; its main competitors being Converse and Keds. "Everything you do is more fun with PF" read one 1947 magazine ad. PF styles ranged from high- and low-top sport shoes to oxfords and moccasins "for work, relaxation and play." By the 1960s, PF was one of the most popular shoes in America, but struggled with industry changes in the early 70s."

The BS meter goes way up on drop copy like this: The Keycaps of Your Dreams Put your keyboard in a dreamlike state with this set of colorful, abstract keycaps. Made up of cream alphas and granite blue and peach modifiers, the set has a soothing feel to it—like you’d have when sound asleep in your cozy bed. 🙄 Rapid Deployment, Comfy Feel Have a need for speed? You’re not alone. Backed by the CRKT’s Outburst opening technology, the Hyperspeed opens fast—so fast you just might miss it if you don’t look hard enough. 🙄 And how about EDC drops with the word “Tactical” tacked on. Ridiculous marketing speak to make hipsters and toy soldiers feel tougher than they really are. Hyperbole is everywhere.

glennacSad but true. That's why I invented the MD Marketing BS gamma-wave filter. Still waiting to hear from them regarding my drop application...

These shoes are $39.99 for mens and womens on LeftLane Sports. I have bought from them several times and have purchased all of my South American hiking trips there.

porkyfanThanks! Mine arrived yesterday. Using them today at work. Almost match the blue scrubs we wear. They are are very similar in construction to the Escalantes - in that they are very light and softly constructed. While the Escalantes seem like a knitted fabric, the Duos appear to involve a more plasticy mesh.

Seventy y.o. 0.0 runner here (I walk). Got my high school age daughter a pair of superiors for x country and a pair for myself. Used to wear Earth shoes as a mainframe operator nearly 50 years ago. Never had the aches and pains that others had from standing on hard floors and most of my department followed my lead. Wide toe box and negative drop. Sucked for distance walking because of the negative drop and no cushioning. You may be wondering, why is this old man rambling on. It's because I've been looking for walking shoes with these characteristics for decades and the moment I put the superiors on I knew I found my off road shoes. Also, the first person I asked if they remembered Anna Kalso Earth shoes and pointed to the toe box, burst out laughing. Looking for sping track mid distance shoes for my daughter. Don't know if these are the ones. Am thinking the Paradigms might be the ones, both of us are over pronators. I'm done for now. Hey, Altra, we gonna be seeing Paradigms here soon? Will the Duos do?

EtagHey @Etag, you're not the only one that has related Altra to earth shoes! The Duo is a much lighter shoe than the Paradigm and more catered toward neutral runners that like to go FAST but love high cushioned shoes. Because this is a speedy shoe it won't last as long as the Paradigm but the weight difference is pretty substantial. It might be a good time to take a risk since the price is so good. The Paradigm has been a hot shoe and is sold out a lot of places. I doubt we will have enough inventory to list them at any kind of a discount but you never know!

@AltraRunner I'm wearing a men's size 12.5 in Timp 1.0 would you recommend the same size for these?

Thank you for the reply! I guess the extra volume toe box and extra snug mid/heel fit have a purpose? I need a pair of non-trail shoes for days when I can't get on a trail; recently I've been using a pair of light trail shoes (Terra Kiger 4) on off-trail runs, but I feel like they are a bit too 'firm', so I want to get an Altra road shoe. I want to try this shoe, but again it's always a risk because here in South Korea not one shop carries an Altra shoe larger than 10.5, so it's impossible to try them on before ordering from Massdrop. The Timp I ordered are fine at 12.5, so I guess this one would be too as you suggest.

Hi Everyone, thank you for your interest in this drop! Altra was able to make more units available for you all, so we've restocked a bunch of sizes that were previously sold out. Hope this allows a few more of you to grab this amazing shoe!

Most comfortable shoes. Noticed that the "bend" is causing the shoe to tear at the sides.

anyone else is having this issue? The size does feel 1/2 size too large. Could be caused by the "slack"

Key takeaways on what makes this shoe exceptionally unique:
  1. For a max cushion shoe, it is incredibly light: men’s: 8.4 oz (238 g) and women’s: 7.1 oz (201 g)
  2. Although 30 mm stack height, it enjoys a super smooth ride
  3. With all of that cushion, one might expect a squishy/spongy landing, but it is quite the opposite with a firm responsive midsole
  4. Lastly, you get the versatility of a max cushion shoe for long runs that punish your body, paired with a light racing shoe that is necessary for PRs and shorter, faster workouts.
