Writing a review of my own instead of replying to other reviews that talk about trails: These are not a trail shoe and will not last very long if you use them as such. The duos I massdropped are my second pair. Although they *feel* great on dry nontechnical trails, the uppers will tear very quickly with that use. I ran around 200mi of road in my last pair before trying them on trails, and the uppers tore after only a few trail runs. I think I probably would have gotten 400+mi out of them if I had stuck to pavement. I'm happy to replace that pair, but plan to use them strictly on pavement. I'd give them two stars if I were reviewing them as a trail shoe, even at the massdrop price point
These are great shoes, but they run about half a size too large. My lone peaks 3.0 are a perfect fit for size 10. You'd think you'd be safe ordering the same size from the same brand, but nope. Order a half size smaller and you will be very happy with this running shoe
These are the exact same pair of Altra Duos I bought a year ago. They are a road shoe, and aren't as durable as my trail Altras, but I love these for road running. I wore my first pair for the Chicago marathon. They are light, breathable, have a roomy toe box for foot splay (I was using Hoka, but even with a narrow foot, their changes in design are a no-go for me anymore), are cushioned well for the road. The thin material does mean giving up on a sturdy material on the outer, but what it gives is worth it.
I'm a big Altra fan, but these shoes are only ok. Stiff toe rubber crunches down on my toes - hopefully they'll soften up. In addition, Altra has a shoe sizing problem. I'm either an 8 or 8.5 in their shoes, depending on the model, and I never know until I try on any given model. These shoes run large. In addition, they can't be returned or exchanged because of Massdrop. So they get one star.
er123Yeah, I have a feeling there is a design flaw in this particular model at the toe. Both shoes developed dimples between the big toe and the next toe. I’ve made an attempt to heat up the area with a hairdryer on High and force it out from inside but didn’t do it vary long and want to try again later.
Seems that when the shoes are cinched up and tied they pull on the material above the toes and cause it to dimple inward. Kind of annoying pushing on your toes all day. 🤨
My wife loves these as many people do, so I snapped up a pair in this sale for her. Tons of cushion with zero drop and negative style. The fact she loves them even though they're so ugly is a good indicator.
I have Olympus, a few pairs of Lone Peaks and Escalantes so I love the fit of Altras but the Duo is really tight around the sesamoid bone (the bone that connects to your big toe. You cant get around this by adjusting the lacing because its a structural part of the shoe. Since there are no returns I had to give these away :(
